When starting FS9 and trying to down load real world weather, the
program just closes (crashes). Does anyone have any idea why this
would be happening? The program was working fine a few months ago and
have only updated my computer with Window updates and Virus Scan
updates. Would appreciate any help. Thank you

Is any of your protective software shutting down the program when it attempts
to access the Internet?  Check your security settings.
ilguy59@hotmail.com - 29 May 2007 03:50 GMT
Thanks for the response. I have checked all of my Firewall settings
and they have not changed since the last time i was able to load the
real world weather. If you have a specific setting that i should
check, please let me know. I am running McAfee Virus Security Center
with firewall and virus only. I have also checked my router settings
and they all seem to be ok.

Hi All,
I just want to thank all of you for your responses. I greatly
appreciate it. I will keep the thread open. I will give it a few days
and see if it corrects itself. Thanks again and happy flying

I have had the same problem over the last few days with FSX after
having run it successfully for a couple of months, so I suspect that
there may be a problem at the weather server end, not on our
computers.

OK, now it's running fine here in Spain too! Thank G-d, seems it was
on Jepessen's side. I'll still monitor the situation, though

Cheers,
Alek

It actually wasn't a Jepessen problem. It's an inbuilt feature. The weather
was so bad, that the FAA said it was unsafe to fly, so they just shut down
the a/c for you. See! They are a caring bunch!;-)

I think the problem is with the real world weather server.  Was working
fine two days ago.  I could not get it to work with FS2002 or FS9 tonight
(May 28).  Both flight sims would download the weather and then lock up and
crash to desktop when they tried to load the weather into the flight sim.

Happy flying!

Thats happened before during a bad electrical storm over in Seattle.  But, I
had flown this morning and also did some things this afternoon and I didn't
have a problem using real weather.

There is another that you can use thats also freeware.  The Metar Program
thats available on the www.msfsgateway.com  is very good.  Go to the main
menu bar and look around.

Hi,
That is exactly what is happening here also. It starts to load and
then the program crashes to the desktop.

Same problem here: I've tried from different locations, USA and Europe,
and either it crashes directly to the desktop or I get an error message
telling that msvcr70.dll has crashed.

Your message comforts me because I installed a couple of add-ons this
morning and worried that one of them might have messed with my system.

Besides the in-built weather feature, I also use Active Sky 6.5 that
seems quite slower to load data today as it does usually, so there must
be a weather server problem somewhere... but at least not on our PCs. :-)

Same is happening to me. FS9 crashes upon attempt to connect to real
weather. 4 days ago it was running fine. I think it will solve by
itself. Let's keep the thread running, just in case.

Kind regards,
Alek

Ditto
Best way around it is to use a proxy program like FSMetar154.zip which is
free and can attach to Vatsim, IVAO or the North American servers to d/l
weather as opposed to MS default which looks to Jeppeson.
The above prog can be got from
http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/fsmetar/ and possibly the major FS
outlets.
BTW if you run Vista (which I do) it will not run on the vista machine.  I
have it running networked from an old XP laptop.

Same problem here - weather file is downloaded just fine, but importing into
FS make it crash. I've tried both direct update and with  GetWeather, both
ended with same results. Since this problem is quite wide (as seen here), my
guess is that problem lies within weather files.

Hrvoje

And just to inform that the problem is still present. There is simply
NO WAY to load the wx, I have made all the pertinent checks, to no
avail. I wonder if I will ever be able to load it again. Without it,
life and simulation itself has no meaning. Pretty annoying.

Best regards,
Alek

If someone succeeds loading it, please notify.

They all pull the weather from the same servers, AFAIK.
