So basically what this poll says is that 72.49% of people won't be buying
it on PS2.  However, 27.51% will be playing it in some fashion (PC or
PS2).  From the numbers on the right, that's about 8,000 out of 29,101
surveyed.

I don't understand Square's (or anyone's, really) idea for bringing an
online RPG to a console system.  Most console gamers who don't own gaming
PCs don't want to buy a game, buy the hard drive (or get it with the
game), buy an external USB keyboard so they can talk in game, and then
control walking around and executing commands with a PS2 controller.  I
would absolutely /hate/ having a white mage who didn't have the benefit
of being able to macro Cure and Cure II because they don't have enough
buttons.  Example:
Alt + x casts Cure on party member x
Ctrl + x casts Cure II on party member x

How can you get that type of flexibility on a PS2?  When I'm near death
and getting pounded on, I don't want someone fumbling around trying to
target me, then having to hit buttons to open menus and find Cure and
cast it, I want someone to hit Ctrl + 4 and get Cure II on me ASAP.

So if you mutiply this by the amount of playstation 2 owners in the
world there will be quite alot of people buying and playing the game
the game.

Why not, maybe they want to play a game like this but don't want to
shell out for a high spec PC capable of playing the game as the
designers intended, at least with a PS2 you won't have any problems
with graphics or sound of memory etc.....

I can see your point with the macros issue, will this not be possible
with the PS2 keyboard??? I don't know

Basically this is bringing a new genre of game to the console player,
this market will expand substantially over the next few years I
believe.
The person who may have watched games like this and thought 'if only I
had a PC'
can now play on his TV.

Personally I won't be getting the game, hardrive etc becasue I don't
spend enough time on my PS2 to develop in a game like this.

Keep in mind that the proportion of Square fanboys on GameFAQs is
quite high.  Also, only a few percent actually want to play it for the
PS2.

The majority of your Japanese players are on PS2s, and have you seen some
these guys?  Sweet lord, they're better than 99% ot the PC elitists.  And,
what I find funny is that everybody is so worried about the PS2 players
being inept and idiotic, yet they don't seem to realize that a PS2 with a
keyboard and a controller (replacing the mouse) has the exact same
capabilites of a computer in online gaming.  By the way, anyone without a
keyboard is going to show serious signs that you'll be able to pick up on
easily. (Slow typing without using the translator of course, inefficient
spellcasting, and of course, my favorite, the use of abbrev. ;])

In an MMORPG, maybe.  A keyboard/controller combo would be useless in
an online FPS.

Anyway, the assumption was that the PS2 gamers wouldn't have a
keyboard.  If they're willing (better yet, required) to buy a keyboard
for FFXI, so much the better.
