No reason, except for the what 4-5 million Xbox 360 installed base
(possibly 10 million by end of year, at least so thinks MS), and the
umpteen million installed base of mid to upper end gaming PC's. Yeah.
Except for that, no reason at all.
I just hope SquareEnix is getting some major kick-backs from Sony by
helping them maintain their near-monopoly on the console RPG. I'd hate
to think that they're selling their souls to the devil for nothing.

Which is why FF9, FFX and FFX-2 were all ported over? The only reason FF11
got ported over was to give a bigger userbase for an online game - they
won't bother porting FF12 or 13 without a good reason, or at least for a
long time.

Why do you care what one devil trades with another?

You're thinking like an American.

I remember reading an article about why Square-Enix hated to make games for
multiple platforms. I guess SE figured that the cost to make multiplatform
developement team wouldn't be worth the money they could possibly get, most
likely from the poor outcome from FF7 and FF8 for the PC. I don't know if
they changed their position recently.

LOL kick-backs. If you read the history of Square will see the moved to
Sony since
alwayed them to be creative and complex story lines. They have made their
fans
very happy and that is the reason they are so strong in the RPG market. Not
many
RPG like FF series can brag millions of copies for each release in under 30
days.
Already looking forward to Final Fantasy 15 and beyond. But square not
noted
anything beyond 15 so far.

I've actually only played FFVII and FFVIII on the PC, which I played
first then got a PS and FFIX.
FFVII for the PC was platinum hit or something from Eidos, at least in
the packaging I had it in.
FFVIII is probably the one that killed it, if either did. I know a lot
of people that just didn't like the game, I thought it was alright
though. However, bad word of mouth -> bad sales. I would guess that
most people which bought FFVIII would only bye one, and most likely for
the PS.
One guy I went to highschool with only played games on his PC. As of a
couple of years ago, he was still waiting for FFIX on the PC so he
could play it.

I've only played the PC version of both FF7 and FF8 as well. The only reason
I got the PS was to play FF-9. I've been planning on replaying FF7 on my
computer over the summer, once I'm done with all my school projects.

The number one market for Square is Japan. The 360 is doing worse in Japan
than the original Xbox did (and that is saying something).
There might be 5 million 360s worldwide, but there's maybe 100,000 in Japan
(and I might be overestimating the number - apparently 45,000 at launch,
about about 1500 per week after that)

I guess ultimately it'll come down to how well the Mistwalker 360
J-RPGs sell. If they prove there's a market, I'd be a little surprised if
Square didn't try to make a move into the market, esp if Sony's "don't
think of it as a game console" stays at a stratospheric price.
