First of all, no, I have not been using RPG Maker, I have been using
Sphere and Custom. I wanted to try RPG Maker, though.
Secondly, they're darn difficult to make, clairey. There's the fun
stuff, like making sprites and maps, but then you have to do all the
scripting which hurts your brain. You could sit there for hours just
trying to figure out how to make your character say hello.
Sphere gives you more room to sprea out your game, but is realistically
dependant on scripting, the hard part. You can find it at
www.aegisknight.org, I think... Custom has it all laid out for you, but
it's not as classy as sphere, and has many more boundaries as to what
you can do. It can be found at www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce If I
got those addresses wrong, then you may hate me.
