I've heard that there are prescription pharmaceuticals that mimic the
medicinal effects of marijuana, but are ten times as effective.  BUT
THATS JUST EVIL PHARAMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY PROPAGANDA MAAAAAAAN YOU KNOW
THE ALLIES OF THE GLOBALIZATION CAPITALIST CONSPIRACY MAAAAAN DUHHH
FOUR TWENTY

If you ridicule marijuana users and their subculture, they get PISSED.
It's an institution now.  Watching them get all angry and defensive
whilst patting themselves on the back for being oh so very *bad* is a
hell of a lot more fun than, say, smoking marijuana.

They've also recently developed a THC transdermal patch.  Great stuff
for those people who can't or won't smoke marijuana due to health
concerns, but potheads rant on about how it's holding the cause for
legalization back or something.  Hint:  The pharmaceuticals aren't
doing anything to keep marijuana from the public.

You're right, the war on drugs is.  The US gov can't turn around and just
legalize it after spending so much money against it
