Mine was FFL1 on Gameboy...my first RPG. I did LOZ before that, but I
don't consider that to be
on the same ground.

I got mine for a trade too. Like I think I got a mini airhockey table (or
maybe it was a mini foosball?) that didn't work and had to go back to the
store.

The first one I played and cared about was FF3us. It's possible I played
FF1 on a friend's NES, but I don't remember that well.

Final Fantasy 1, for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
This along with Ultima: Exodus, and Dragon Warrior were our favorite
RPGs back then.

Those were the three I remember most. And perhaps the crazy NES Bard's Tale.

elementary school...

Bah. I spent quite a while playing that, mapping out the levels, collecting
the scattered clues for navigating the final area, but when it came time to
apply them, they let me right into a wall. I'd been enjoying the game up
'til that point.
I didn't play much of Bard's Tale. From what I remember, I quit with the
feeling that it was taking forever to make any progress in the game. Oddly,
I played quite a bit of Wizardry I and II, which also start off rather slow.
Don't know why it didn't bother me with them.
