200 item limit to materia

Materia, FF VII question

I noticed that one character in the game says I am limited to 200 materia
total. How does it calculate this? I have around 423 materia right now. Is
that only 200 master or something? Or 200 different?

Yes, 423 is a large number. I've beat the game a bunch, and thought it
would be fun to work on getting "3 MASTERS" of all materia. I have way too
much time on my hands.

Why should a limit on how much materia you can have be a problem...
no-one in thier right mind needs that much.... that's just silly...

the 200 limit is in the list. you can fit an additional 128 on the
characters; weapons and armour (144 if you revive Aeris)

and despite what Chaotic Angel says, there are things that require a LOT of
materia. Like giving everyone 8 Counter Attacks. Or n-ta magic.

Hehe. Thats where I am going at. I have everyone with Counter Attacks, and
HP+, Sure, it takes some fun out, but after you have beaten the game a
bunch of times, its fun to do things differently.

Right now I am playing this on my PC version of it. As I'm sad yes, I just
like the keyboard better than the gamepad. And with a PC, generally the
graphics and speed of it are a boat load faster. Though, the cut
scene/movies due look terrible...

And if I've equipped everyone with a full set of masters, and if I've gotten
them all to level 99 with tabs morphed in the crashed Gelnika to max out
their stats, how much time did *I* have on my hands?
