Ya, they seem focused on makeing the games as real as possable, instead of
focusing on what's importaint. Making it as fun as possable. And ya, the
anniversary collection was great.

Yes. also instead of making things difficult due to some minor puzzle or
trick which might require the programmer to think a bit, they just
artificially inflate the difficulty by doing things like:
All enemies simply run straight at you shooting/attacking.
Opponent racers always automatically run 5 MPH faster than you on the
"perfect track", no matter how badly that speed should f.ck up their ability
to take turns.
There are 50 enemies all at once. They also all shoot rockets.
Enemies have unlimited ammo, you don't, even when using a weapon picked off
of a dead enemy (actually I don't think any game has limited enemy ammo, I
guess MP sort of counts as ammo).
Enemies take an excessive number of hits to kill. Especially bad when the
enemy is easy to dodge/hit as this just makes the game get boring because
you're pounding away on the same guy for like an hour with no chance of
dying anyway.
------------------------
There are of course other things that I find annoying about newer games.
Story sequences and movies tend to be excessive. Yay, ANOTHER 5 minute FMV
with lots of boring bad dialogue, when do I get to kill things again?
Lengthy boring plots with too many pointless subplots and branches and
"surprise" twists. This could be OK if it were actually well done and not
predictable. Besides, not every game requires a movie like plot to be fun.
Boring weapons and attacks. Let's see, standard FPS arsenal, a knife of
some sort, a pistol or two (one of which is a revolver), three machine guns
that all function essentially identical, a shotgun, some sort of explosives
such as grenades, somehting that shoots explosives like a rocket launcher,
two or three useless "alien guns", one overpowered super alien rocket
launcher weapon. Each of these weapons should ahve some useless form of
alternate fire.
Going the other way on the point of games with excessive plots, RPGS need to
do away with random encounters. Less fighting, more story/boss battles.
Boring level design plagues games of today. I've played a ton of 2D games,
I've played a ton of 3D games. I am getting really god damn sick of 3D
environments. This probably also stems from the idea of games trying to be
uber realistic. They all just end up comming off as clones.
Mostly as far as my interest in the PS3, I know everytime I look through the
PS2 games I can't find anything that looks even remotely interesting. I've
kept my Ps2 collection pretty minimal overall. For a long while I joked how
the first games I bought were FFX, MGS2, and GTA3 and how the next games I
would buy in a year would be FFXI, MGS3, and GTA4. Nothing else seemed
exciting enough to care about. (NOTE: FFXI turned int FFX-2 pretty
quickly),

Yeah... I am starting to have the same feelings. I am addicted only to FF
games. I tried to play back Tomb Raider... shite. Medal of Honour... boring.
MGS2.. Same thing. Clock Tower 3... Boff...
I mean, they are all great, but there is not playback. Once you have done
it, forget it. They are more like interactive movies. But it is also true I
do not play arcades. Probably there are some great ones around. And
soccer/sport games are supposed to be great as well, if you like the genre.
Well, maybe an era is getting over. Let's go back playing doctor with the
girls. :-D
