I just saw "Escape From New York" last night, staring kurt russel. it was
very amusing... A cadilac with chandeliers on the hood, teeheee... I
recommend all fans of the fallout world go ahead and watch this.
Since it's mostly dead here anyways, how about listing all the
falloutish/apocalyptic-ish movies?

here's some I've seen - in no particular order...

Escape From New York.
Mad Max 1, 2 and 3 - mel gibson's first. must watch. 4th in pre-production!
weee.
Waterworld - It's just an action movie and it's not as bad as they say.
really, it's not.
Cyborg - van damme movie, but fun anyway ;) very falloutish.
Reign Of Fire - dragons, but still pretty falloutish.
28 Days Later - zombies!
*cough* Battle Field Earth *cough* - ah well... the above aren't much better
;)
Soylent Green - pretty old, but also pretty good.

That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there were others...
I think as long as the atmosphere comes close it's fine, so the likes of
Blade Runner oughta do too...

of course someone had to do that... ;)
But Why? As an action movie, and nothing but an action movie, it's
definately on par with at least the mediocre action movies and I'd dare say
a helluvalot better than that too... so why is it suddenly so different from
any of the other movies I for instance mentioned which happen to be very
entertaining despite their b-movie-ness? It's exactly the same... except of
course most of the others had probably around 25 dollar budgets where as
waterworld had a gargantuan 170 odd million dollar budget... But when did
money ever equal quality?
What about recent film Terminator 3? Was there anything groundbreaking about
that movie? NO! There is nothing in it you haven't seen before... But it was
fairly entertaining "action" film none the less...

I said that my remark was an understatement, but your says it all. Even
before you posted your first msg, you already knew that some one would make
the kinda remark I made. That shows that deep ( or not so deep maybe ) in
your hart you too know its a really bad movie.

Sure holywood makes tons of bad movies year after year, but among those
there will be ones that stick out. Making such a bad movie with such a
budget, is a good reason to stick out. If you make a movie that is 10 times
as bad, but for a budget of $100, no one will talk about it. This is not
strange, this is normal.

It's a bad movie because of a combination of things. Bad script, boring
characters, bad casting, nasty 'mad max ripp off feeling', stupid context.
I found 'Escape from New York" very amusing too. It's not that i dont like
that kind of movies. It's been a long time since i saw it, but as i remember
it, the whole movie had a kind of weirdness over it, making it fun to watch.

I agree Terminator 3 was mildly entertaining, but that was for because
everything was a little over the top. The sound effects sounded like they
came from a cartoon. And all the 'hidden' references to previous movies were
funny too. Actually i think if you hadnt seen the previous Terminator's, the
third one would have been quite lame. Waterworld, on the other hand, took
itself very serious.

Oh well, all this is just a matter of opinion. There is nothing wrong with
liking Waterwold. But if I where you i wouldnt tell your friends about it,
you'll never hear the end of it. :-)

Omg, now you have stop. I cleary said its all matter of opinion. And that
there is nothing wrong with liking the movie. My last remark was a joke (
notice the smile ), yours clearly was not.
Secondly if you imply a large group of pple I belong too, you also imply me.
That is personal.

And to get back to the discussion. Yes i saw the movie, and no i really
didnt like it. Just because there where many pple who said they didnt like
it, doesnt mean i cant judge it for myself.

Disapointing but it is no use talking to you. I called you 'bad character'
because you called me sheep. I did not say it to anybody else. I also stated
you liked a movie i think is bad. Both thinks makes sense coming from you
( since you showed bad character ). It is YOU who makes the link between the
2, assuming i call every one that who doesnt like the movie. Which I dont.
Unlike you by the way, who calls a whole group of pple sheep.

Yeah it's all subjective, but I think you'll find that, as Bateau promptly
explains it, the larger portion of waterworld's infamy is due to its hype.
Most say it's crap because most people say it's crap! Waterworld failed the
moment the budget numbers went public, then people expected a lot more than
it really was; a grand attempt at a simple action film, and that's the
problem. How does an action film take itself very seriously? It's not
possible. It's you who's taking it very seriously, or more likely, someone
else is taking it very seriously FOR You.

Most people who likes Lord of the Rings, the world's absolutely most hyped
over movie ever, did not come out the cinema thinking about what a great
film they had just seen, but rather they came out thinking of how proud they
were that they had seen it, preferably before everyone else they knew...

Waterworld was a lot more intertaining than your average teen flick sh.t and
late night tv trash so how come it's gotten a reputation that makes it look
like the bottom 250? bad hype.
Not gonna claim the movie is great, but rather that it is on par with most
decent action films. And it does have something you're not likely to see
again outside of a CG studio...

I've seen muppetshows more suspenseful than lotr... okay exaggerated, but I
was a kind of bored when I got out of the cinema and I think mostly everyone
else was bored/disappointed too...
2nd was a little better, haven't seen the third yet.

Please dont tell me what I take seriously and what I do not. You can't know
that because I never told you. The film does take itself seriously. That
says something about how a film is done. It doesnt mean the makers are
saying "this is a very serious movie".

What surprises me a bit, is that you guys think that everyone dislikes
Waterworld. It actually did pretty well at the box office and there are
enough positive reviews to be found about the movie ( but also negative ).
It almost looks like you want everybody to dislike the movie, just so you
can tell pple who dont like it that they are repeating other pple. Did see
the movie, didnt like it.

Anyways, my 'vote' goes to the second mad max movie, as being closest to
fallout games. The first has still a little to much civilazation in it (

Waterworld takes itself as serious as terminator (or any other
semi-un-serious film)... It wasn't about what would happen if we f.cked up
and made the icecaps melt (I mean comon, it's totally exaggerated, 10-15m or
something not 200m) or how people would live and treat eachother or that
we'd turn into mutants or dig prophecies... In fact I'd dare say all this is
quite un-serious. It's just a fantasy in an imaginary world with imaginary
people and a lot of water.

Because it's got a reputation that makes one believe it blows and I don't
think that's entirely fair.
That's why I mentioned it in the first place.

Too much hype does that...
My four friends thought the same and I've come out of that same cinema
surrounded by a lot better mood from lesser movies many times. That's a
rather large cinema too.
I think most thought that it didn't make them feel like they should give a
sh.t. Giving you little reason to really like any of the characters. Too
impersonal. It tries really hard to make it personal, but fails I'd say
probably because there simply are too many characters.
I've been told by many it's a lot better if you read the books because then
you have grown a relationship with all of them and so it makes sense.
Also "bringing whatever artifact to whatever place" usually isn't the recipe
to success...
The scenography, CG and costumes and such is stunning, no doubt, but that
about sums up the good parts to a regular non-fantasy-fanatical person like
me.

agreed, the order of the movies doesn't really make sense, but then, they
don't really have anything to do with eachother, they just share the same

Absolutely. There's also a sequel (or something) called "Escape From LA"
with Kurt... attempting to aquire it now.

I found it ok-entertaining but I agree the dragons weren't too credible...
The part with the american army squad was pretty amusing.
But dragons only really fit in fantasy medieval-age type worlds...

12 monkeys is great.

here's a few more, perhaps less post-apoc like story wise but still captures
much the same feel.

Snake Plesskin is kind of like the vault dweller in the way the
government keeps screwing him. The Bloody Mess ending in Fallout is
