Fallout 3 is a great game in many ways, but do I really have to watch
someone's head, arms or legs being ripped off, with blood spurting out
everywhere? Maybe it's just because I'm a girl, and boys like that
sort of nightmare stuff, but I wish there was an option to switch it
off.

Are there games that get banned or restricted for sex and nudity? Sex
can be a loving thing to do, and nudity is natural and beautiful, but
when game-makers avoid censorship by avoiding sex and nudity, and
confidently serve up the most extreme form of murderous violence
instead, there's something wrong with our censorship system!

Don't get me wrong, I'm still playing the game, because it has
fantastic gameplay. But if you hear me screaming in the middle of the
night, I guarantee it won't be because I'm enjoying myself.

Gameplay speaks about fighting and killing in a post atomic world.
IN the real world, firing with a shotgun is always devastating and
fallout3 raises this a bit but IMHO
A fallout game without  blood and gore is not a fallout game.

Use laser weapons instead then, you'll just be left with a pile of ashes!

But if there was an option to switch off the blood and gore, you and
others could still have it in your game, and those who don't like it
could avoid it. okay? I'm not saying that it should be stopped
altogether.

I only suggested that as there seems to be no option to tone down the gore.
I read an online comic which pokes fun at the gore levels in F3:

Yes, I understood that. That's why I wrote that I think that's a good
idea. I've been using laser weapons ever since, and I like the game
much better! Thanks!

Yeah, i dont mind violent games but i have to say F3 is pretty graphic. I
took the bloody-mess* perk as it was kind of funny in fallout1 but it was
pretty over the top in F3. I mean, you shoot a guy in the head... and his
arms and legs fall off. It kind of removes you from the game a little when
you're like "wft... i'm no biology expert but i'm pretty sure the neck
bone's not connected to the knee bone". They should have had a gore level
slider for the younger people ranging from "Rainbows and kittens" to
"Intestine sprinkler".

I want to see the censorship laws adapt a bit and give us some adult
ratings. In the meantime it wouldnt have been too much of a sacrifice for
bethesda to have an option to tone it down a little even if it wasnt he
default setting. I mean oblivion worked well and it wasnt over the top.

* bloody mess is so not worth it unless you like spending and hour searching
for loot in a carpet of giblets... really gets annoying when theres like
more than 4 dead people on the same spot.

In the UK where I am, F3 was released with an 18 rating, but I agree that it
would benefit from a gore slider to tone it down a bit. Puts me in mind of
Doom 3, when the brains fall out. Recently, I shot a guy who looked like
he'd got lost from STALKER, he had the NBC suit on. Has anyone noticed any
nods to other games/ films whilst playing?

Hi Folks, i just stumbled across this discussion. As to say, in
Germany F3 is sold with an 18 rating without any Blood and Gore. I use
an English .exe that brings back the splatter effects (the language
isnt influenced). So if you dont like them, you could use a
German .exe file :)

Greetings,
Henning
