Micha³ Szmitkowski - 26 Mar 2005 11:21 GMT I was thinking about continuation of this great game. I wonder if there is any possibility that Black Isle will decide to make Fallout 3. Or maybe there are some rumors about it?

Black Isle is no more - they were closed down in 12/03 while working on Fallout 3. A few months later Bethesda , the guys that did Morrowind, bought the license are are currently working on a new version of Fallout 3

opus007 - 27 Mar 2005 06:02 GMT Fallout 2 was such a great game. Am hoping that Bethesda can complete a game that is even 1/2 of FO2.

I though Blizzard was slow releasing games - heeheehee. Julie

Am hoping that Bethesda can complete a >game that is even 1/2 of FO2. Fallout 2 is crap. Fallout 1 was based on a great post apocalyptic future from a retro viewpoint. With Fallout 2 forgot about that original viewpoint and based it on Fallout 1. They added no cool new visions of the future and it ended up with significantly less than Fallout 1 did.

I tried to buy FO1 with FO2, they offered them both as a package for about $20US, but the store was out of them, so I just bought FO2.

Doesn't Interplay sell them both for $10 or something?

I bought this about 4 years ago :) By the way, it's nice to see one of the last holdouts here.
Were the graphics in FO1 decent? Just curious.

[quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > > Were the graphics in FO1 decent? Just curious. FO1 graphics are 'good enough' for what it is still. ""THE GAME"" is still the THING to hook our attention. The trendy-hip-modern-top drawer-groovey-kewl 3D 'particle effects' we are allegedly addicted to, should not spoil the FO1 experience. You will be able to highlight those small items of necessity, like, the 10 mm ammo and stim packs hiding in the piles of bones in the Scorpions' cave.
It's not like the 'horror' of -- going home -- , that replaying ''Wasteland''' might be, until the mental adjustment is made to regress to DOS CGA-EGA.
Getting The FO's from Interplay? As far as I know, the last (FRENCH) man standing at Interplay has neglected this possible revenue, trickle, if he 'could', still be businessman enough to, offer the FO's for direct sale.
The Mac ports, for OS 10, are still of around, not sure if Macplay still offers FO1 at their site. Expect to pay 15 to 30 dollars depending on the source.
I have been replaying the Mac ports. There are convenience improvements in the FO2 interface that one must 'forgive' in FO1.
To save my saves for different characters, because of my limited knowledge of 'Mac' OS I've been dragging and dropping the 500 meg file to another hard drive file or CD. In these days of cheap CD's and gigabytes of hard drive space, it's an easy solution to playing parallel games of differing hero types.
Even if you have limited time to spend. Don't access the number of interesting walkthroughs until you've blundered through FO1 at least once.
The true stunning impact is the ... end. This is the level of story telling that the Diablo-Half Life-Ever Quest want-a-be's will never,
.... beg, borrow, or steal.

Just curious. pretty much the same, I don't think they tweaked the graphics engine to make FO2, just a few UI and functionality enhancements. Otherwise, everything looks the same. Which isn't a bad thing, IMHO :)

[quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > >Were the graphics in FO1 decent? Just curious. They are exactly the same. Fallout 2 uses the same engine as Fallout 1 with some minor changes. Almost all of the Fallout 2 graphics are from Fallout 1. Many of the new graphics they made for Fallout 2 are UTTER sh.t in comparison. Eg have you noticed how the big guys from the casinos look like they're made of plastic and fall over like mannequins when they die? They weren't in Fallout 1.

They added no cool new visions of the future and it ended up > with significantly less than Fallout 1 did. Fallout 2 was NOT crap. Maybe compared to F1, but everything else is too. It just wasn't new. You can think of it as a large, pretty good expansion to F1. There were certainly no innovations or new things, but why should there be? Fallout 1 was plenty good. You don't have to always add new things to every game. F2 did greatly refine the game mechanics, in such things as the overpowered stealing and barter in F1.
I, for one, would be absolutely content to play Fallout 3 if it's just more of Fallout 1. It could be the same time period, everything. Maybe move the setting to New York State, so there doesn't even have to be any overlap between the stories. Even the old engine would be fine, though higher allowed resolution would go a long way.

Not as good as FO1, and I wish they would have stuck more with the "wasteland" theme with low technology, but overall I thought it was ok.

You almost sound like those pricks from the > No Mutants Allowed Web site. Hey now. I think it's pretty obvious it's eir opinion. I certainly think F1 was a better game, but I'd still rather play F2 despite owning both. I don't so much care about the right setting or story (not like it's 'new and interesting' after beating it ten times anyway) as I do about the game mechanics, and F1 is just too aggrivating it some aspects.

But that's maybe because I played Fo2 first.
