GameSpy has an interview.

"GameSpy: Since you now have the rights for the franchise on console, is
Fallout 3 also coming to consoles?
Pete Hines: Our intent is to develop and publish the game for a number of
platforms.
"

and

"GameSpy: Finally, will Fallout 3 be from a first- or third-person
perspective like the Morrowind series, or isometric, like its predecessors?
Pete Hines: Too early to say, but I imagine it'll probably lean towards
using technology that we're developing. "

So the game will be geared towards consoles...
This without any doubt means a (near) 1st person shooter. By near I mean
it's not completely unlikely that it'll be a close-up 3rd person. But it
won't feel like bird view, because that's not what consoles do best (for
various reasons).

Of course they may be geared towards the next generation of consoles, so how
the polygon count is going to be is hard to say, it may be very high. Which
could be good.
But if it'll be pushed out before xbob2 and gaystation3 then the gfx quality
will be shaky at best, at least in a 3d environment (and it won't be 2d ever
again)...

However the controls will not change much (from morrowind), and neither will
the ui, because that's not how console controls works. As you will witness
in the morrowind xbob version, it just can't be done (properly). Even if
there was going to be mouse and keyboard for xbob2/ps3, games will still be
geared mainly for the multi button controller...

The good news is at least bethesda's game won't be a f.cking MMO, not as it
looks now anyway...

Shame the license didn't sell to troika or obsidian, even silverstyle could
probably have done something decent with it...
The Bethesda team is pretty intelligent (see TES popularity) but they bought
the license so they could spread their investments over several franchieses
and make more money...
Now the next fallout 1st person can still be a good game, but it won't be
"Fallout" at all, it will be something else.

Can't remember the News thread at NMA, still, the discussion flowed to
JE Sawyer and his impressions of console controls, and I think the real
worry of others was the 'dumbing' down of what ever RPG system Bethesda
constructs for a hypothetical 'mass market'.  Doesn't have to go that way.

Bethesda can use the SPECIAL system, and will probablly adapt it to suit
their vision.

If they can evoke 'enough' FO imagery and visual design, and follow the
'historical' continuity of "the canon", then the game play of whatever
format they devise may do the rest.

I guess the "art" and the devil will be in the details.

I don't know.  I tbink the canon has run it's course.  Ie, Fallout 1
was interesting because civilization didn't exist anymore and
everything was in ruins.  In Fallout 2, civilization is back in full
force, and none of it really felt like a post-apocalyptic world, but
it felt a little bit like Fallout.  In Fallout Tactics, it was full
blown hi-tech sci-fi and did not feel like Fallout anymore.

Fallout 2 is a fantasy game complete with talking animals. The designers
wanted to include talking furry racoons too.

And the talking Raccoons morphed into hairy, talking Deathclaws in FOT!

I guess we can only expect the continuity of the canon to set the scene.
Treating it as gospel can be turned on it's many heads if the right
lawyer or strict interpretations culls out a neglected whimsy as a
sanctioned plot device, no matter how silly and self indulgent it would
appear to the rest of us.

Let's hope for a tight group of writers and artists to craft the
graphics and fill out the dialogue trees.  This might create a seamless
acceptance of whatever game engine Bethesda employs.

(Stuff cut, it's easier to follow if read the above posts.)

The 'Jeopardy Answer' is:
Offering an opinion that could attract a cognate reply.

The 'Jeopardy Question' is:

What is .... out of character?

A blatant example of:
persona non ... sequitur....

Warming up the shtick, no doubt.
