I'm playing F2 at work during my lunchtimes, and yesterday I saved just
before I start up the tanker to go to the oil rig... If only it were
lunchtime now... can't wait to see what happens!

Is this really your first time playing????

Yep. Quite new to PC RPGs generally. Planescape:Torment was my first, and
this is my second. I basically asked someone "Which are the best, ever?"
and am working my way through them now :)
I have Baldur's gate lined up next, and also Icewind Dale which is
supposed to be less good, but I got it free with B.Gate.

I'll be surprised if anything ever tops PS:Torment though. Ever. Ever
ever.

Cool.

If you haven't heard yet, Fallout 2 can be quite good to play again with a
different style of character. For example the options you get with a very low
intelligence are quite different from high intelligence. Very high medical or
science can open options otherwise not available etc.... You may want to add it
to the list again after BG.

Do you mean a different character as in choose someone new at the very
beginning? I chose Mingon, I think there was an option for a girl and
one other...

Or do you mean change the way you develop your character's skills,
regardless of who you pick?

You know you can completely customize your character at the start of the
game.

As Bateau says... You can create your own custom player at the start and select
which skills and attributes you want to give priority to.
Then during the game choose how you want the personality to develop: good, evil,
self-serving, or benevolent. A Slaver gets a very different reaction from a
Ranger in some places. Gather 5 NPCs with a high charisma or go it alone. There
is really a wide range of options that make the game very re-playable.
