How is EQ now?

So it's probably been 4 or 5 years since I last played EQ.  I was
having a bit of a hankering to go play again.  I mostly played an
enchanter back in the day - was lv 54 at the time, and did a lot of
charm soloing.  Is that still viable?

Does EQ still exist?

Is EQ 1 or 2 better?

If not are there any games out there that have the equivalent of
enchanter charm soloing?

Thanks,

Yes. And for most of June and July, 208, there was a 54 day free
thing for returning players. The defiant armor items still drop,
they are better than cultural until level 70. Hot zones just
changed. Oh, the hot zones during the 54 day promo got an
additional 35 percent exp bonus. Gone now. See the soe forums for
details.

Up to you.

No idea.

Aw man, just missed it then, that sucks.

Hmm.  What kind of differences are there?

I couldn't even figure out how to or if it is possible to purchase
like some other games have a "platinum edition" with all the
expansions on EQ, let alone the main program looking at the everquest
site.

I don't play EQ 2, so I don't know. There are several discussions
about the differences on the official EQ 1 SOE forums, in The
Newbie Zone.

Station pass gets you monthly access to all SOE games. You just
have to buy the expansions. EQ 1 now has all expansions as part
of each new expansion, the new one shows up in October/November
now. So you pay 40 dolalrs, and get all expansions. I don't know
if EQ 2 does something similar.

i haven't been on an eq1 server in a year, but here's my answers
(because i recently resubscribed and will be on this week, haha!):

charm viable? absolutely, but there have been some changes

as much as i loved complaining (because it was really just reminiscing
of when we were so clearly on top), enchanter charm has moved in line
with what's generally fair; don't expect to be godlike and don't
expect it to be easy ... it's still work and it's still powerful but
there are better soloers out there

the coercer is eq2's enchanter, in terms of charm (the illusionist is
the other side of the enchanter .... kind of a long explanation, but
coercer is what you want if you liked charming)

it's a great ability and it plays out well, but eq2 is really very
simplistic

sometimes you'll enjoy that, other times you'll miss the reward that
comes from mastering a class and knowing how to bend to fit with other
classes and adapting to new situations, etc
