Raising money for group game baz gear, etc

Lunaren - 09 Jan 2008 13:50 GMT I have a 75 raid geared cleric who can hold his own well in any older content and on a separate account some new characters I am leveling, the highest of which is a 70 monk. I'd like to raise money to fund tradeskills leveling as well as gear for my new characters. The cleric is a semi-retired main of many years and now I'd rather enjoy my new guys in the group game. But the cost of things in the bazaar is crazy so I need to get out there and farm for cash somehow.
I actually enjoy playing one character at a time a lot more than two and resort to boxing only when its helpful late nights or for rezzes, buffs, etc. Even my little guys, rather than PL them with the cleric I prefer to give them a nice long temp and send them on thier merry way. Wandering off topic here but I am raising a sk, necro and mage along with the monk and so far the monk is the new main of sorts but I've been thinking probably the necro should be as I need nobody else to go have some fun if friends are asleep and I am not.
Back to the matter at hand, what zones would be good for my cleric to farm would you guys think? He does runs through Veksar easily and the tribute items are nice but things there don't sell like they used to. A mage friend of mine used to like Cobalt Scar and Siren's Grotto I think but I forget why. I never did play much at all in Old Seb so that would probably be a lot of fun but its also probably perma-camped to this day by people farming the Kunark armors, etc. there.
I haven't checked and probably should but maybe just grinding some AA solo in Halls of Honor would be good and sell all the ores, etc. The thing is I am starting Smithing now so I'd hate to part with any of that until I reach my goals there.
Please don't mind me rambling on. I am famous for this. Any suggestions where either the monk or the cleric or perhaps both could farm/xp would be great. I'd love to spend some time at this so I can outfit my guys with nice things from the bazaar since I have no intentions of ever raiding again beyond perhaps epics in a family guild.
I should add that the cleric has almost 700 AA with defensives prior to SoF maxxed, a mix of anguish gear to TSS tier 4, epic 2, decent augs, etc. and is a very capable soloer now at least for old world stuff. So it might be fun to just have him do the farming on his own unless there's a place that I could combine good xp for the monk with this.

Ha! None of the old-world zones are perma-camped, far as I've seen, except perhaps whichever ones are currently hotzones.
Anyway, I wouldn't suggest trying to raise plat by farming gear. Farm tradeskill stuff instead. You already had that thought about the ores in HoH but as you said you might want to save those for your own smith. But in Old Seb you could farm Nodding Blue Lily, which still brings a reasonable price, and since you didn't mention a shaman you don't need alchemy ingredients for yourself. You'll probably also get some of the new spell research drops; not sure what level drops in Seb, probably various levels of spell scrolls and perhaps papyrus, both of which sell okay to researchers. (If your necro wants to do spell research you may want some of those for yourself.)

It's nice to see so many having fun with that now improved part of the game. I know I've been enjoying a quiet break from killing mobs, etc. with friends or solo exploring or whatnot. Personally, I love Abysmal Sea with the sounds of the ocean and soft moody music and banter among the npcs. It's a nice quiet place to relax and do millions of combines... ha ha.
Thanks for the ideas. I think I will part with some tradeskill stuff while doing AA in HoH and see how that goes.

Like Trakanon in Seb and the golem in Fear, these EverFarmer who seems to show up just as the mob spawn. If anyone else tries to camp the named, the EverFarmer are likely to pull a train and dump them on you.

I thought so too given the endless parade of AoN's, auctions of epic drops from Fear, and the constant supply of Kunark era BPs, etc. All that stuff is coming from somewhere and I doubt it is all characters outgrowing it, etc. When my monk is older he might take a few himself and training him will not be an easy task.
I'm sure there are people who simply set a timer on mob spawns to farm them, park tracking bots, etc. There is good income in those things and they are easy to do if you have the inclination and time.
I do detest the farming and selling at high prices of epic drops. Quest items minimally should all be nodrop in my opinion so there is no purchasing an epic and there is no contention for mobs with epic drops except among those actually doing the epic.

Besides all this the froggies drop a lot of gems, with a 70,700 Rng I managed to get gems for about 5k an hour in the average besides the lilies for my Shaman.
Thomas Houseman - 11 Jan 2008 23:56 GMT If you have your hand of glory or like Seb, try farming the iksar illusion and mask of otenebriation masks. Also the Shield of Striding sells VERY well.

Good ideas thanks. I've been living in Dragon Necropolis of late which remains popular among level 80s I note who probably want Zlandicar or perhaps like me, a willsapper for an alt. My little sk is camped in Zlandicar's lair which I had the good fortune of clearing solo. It was also fortunate the little SK was there as he dropped two Cowl of Mortality, one Zlandicar's Heart, one Zlandicar's Talisman. That was quite a haul for one kill. It was good fortune the little SK was there as the Cowl is lore. I've looted a number of nifty old twinks like a sword that procs a long blindness and attack debuff, Chetari staff, cloak, etc. Now if I could just my mitts on Vaniki but no....
