Just rebuilt my computer using an AMD 4400+ cpu.It seems that after a short
time in game, say 10-30 minutes,my character animations freeze and my
movement really speeds up.I can still play but it really is annoying.
So, is anyone else having this problem and if so what is the fix?

Thanks for any info,

DanD

No problem on my AMD 4200+ dual-core.  My guesses for what might cause this on
an upgraded machine that had no previous problems:
 1) heat problems, especially if you changed video cards and your case isn't
well-cooled.  Try running it with the cover off and see if it happens.
 2) driver problems, especially if it isn't a fresh WinXP install, and/or if
you upgraded video card along with chip (and probably mobo).  Check
drivers for EVERYTHING, especially video and sound.
 3) power problems, if you changed to a greedier chip or gpu and
didn't upgrade the power supply.  No way I know to diagnose this other
than trying it with a bigger PS.

I've not heard of any problems on dual-core chips per se.

that's totally not a dual-core issue, per se - unless the act of replacing
the cpu, as mentioned in mark's post (above), caused physical issues (like
heat)

i second his ideas about drivers / os ...

and out of curiousity, what made you pick the 4400? the 4600 is the top in
that line and the 4200 has the best price:performance ratio ... i'm just
being anal =)

Google for a freeware program called runfirst.exe.  Put it in your
everquest directory.

Then make a batchfile to start up eq something like the following:

@echo off
cd "c:\Program Files\EverQuest"
c:
.\runfirst.exe everquest.exe

runfirst.exe will force processor affinity for the program it chains to
to the first core of the CPU.  The normal methods to set processor
affinity (through task manager) do not seem to work for EQ.

So this is a windows XP problem?I upgraded to a 7900 GTX also with the
newest drivers and my temps never get over 120f*.I did read where I could
use the task manager to chane my sett affinity to one cpu and that does
work.

My girlfriend had the same problem and after i installed an amd dual
core patch, the problems dissapeared, cant remember what the link was
though. Found it in the official forum for Everquest 2.

Well its hard to believe but I think the patch made the problem worse. It
looks like I'll just have to change the set affinity each time I play.
