Anyone found the DoD retail box yet?

mikeg.usenet@gmail.com - 14 Sep 2005 12:56 GMT I went to a few (ok, 4 :) stores here yesterday, and none of them had Depths of Darkhollow yet. This is in Connecticut, USA.
Has anyone seen it in (US) stores yet? I don't want to buy the online-only version, since I want the "free" mount for my beastlord.
But I also don't want to keep going to stores if some production problem has kept the boxes off the shelves...
Thanks in advance!

Bought one from eb games yesterday afternoon. The store opened at 10 and by 11:30 they only had 2 left on the shelves, so I'm not sure if they sold that many, or didn't order many in, or didn't get a full order but it seemed kind of strange that they only had 2.

I like the solution of "free EQ via a friend to power level you up" though. A good fix for a real problem as starting from scratch in EQ is still just stupid-hard-confusing, the world is frigging huge.

God knows when it will hit the shops in the UK, heh. I want the two items too, even though the consensus on the Boar is "it is slower than a 3-legged mule" - I had to laugh when I read that in OOC :)
People were complaining that Rogues (and maybe 1 other character?) couldn't use the Gargoyle item. I wonder if that was just another cockup...

As of last night, no pure melee class can use the gargoyle item. Monks, Rogues, Warriors, and Zerkers aren't on the list.
You have to be able to cast a spell to use it apparently. I don't know ... I haven't claimed mine as of yet. Just looking at the one someone linked in /gu. ;-)

Vidden - 14 Sep 2005 17:24 GMT Being a cleric, I was able to use mine last night and was playing as a 65 Gargoyle. That monsters class is Berserker, however, he comes with no weapon and you cant equip one either.... He is, on the up side, maxed out in hand to hand. He was like a monk more then a zerker.
He did have an interesting bug though. He has an AA skill that is levitate. When I click on it, it wont cast but tells me that I dont have enough mana LOL. Since zerkers dont have mana, I think this is going to be a useless skill.
Oh, to the OP, I got mine in EB Games yesterday. There were about 5 left on the shelf.

Many thanks - I'd hate to give it to the wrong character!

And you DO get both freebies when you register the key they send you.

That's a nice service. I'm tempted to use it, even here in the U.S. I've finally found a place to pick it up after calling every software seller in town so I'll be getting it after work today. The big shocker is that WalMart told me that not only do none of the local stores have it, but *no* WalMart has it or ever got it. Whether this is WalMart's "fault" or Sony's is hard to guess, but not getting your product onto the shelves of the biggest retailer in the world is not the making of good business.
There's also the distinct possibility that the person I talked to at WalMart was clueless. They are the biggest because of their prices and convenience, not because of the qualifications of their salespeople. =)

Being an ex-walmart employee, I can honestly tell you that about 95% of the people who work there dont know jack about what they sell.

Even if you asked someone who happened to work in the department and are stading next to product in question, their answer is more likely "I don't know".
It's not just clueless, they are either illiterate or lazy. It's not hard to pick up a product you cover in your department, read some info on it, and memorize some of the common features.
If you asked someone in the paint area what the difference between satin and gloss paint were, their dumb expression would give monkeys a bad name.
If there were any single reason for me to stay employed at Walmart, it's the 10% employee discount but I get paid a lot more elsewhere that offsets the 10% discount :P

Hmmm.... Neither walmart here had it, if that helps. And Walmart.com also says "not available", so it's quite possible that Sony pissed off the gods at Benton...
No luck finding it here yet, although all the reponses here have kept me looking. Thanks! :)
Vidden - 15 Sep 2005 19:04 GMT Why not order it off of www.ebgames.com ??

mikeg.usenet@gmail.com - 15 Sep 2005 20:18 GMT > Why not order it off of www.ebgames.com ?? Well, if I'd ordered it 2 days ago, I'd have it now.
But if I order it now, I won't have it (probably) by this weekend, and odds are, it will show up in a local store before then.
I hope.
The damned DoD box is a rare spawn, and I can't afford to kill all the EQ2 and WoW boxes that are its placeholders :)

Shuacat - 16 Sep 2005 15:00 GMT Mike,
I am not too far away -- on Long Island. I went to a couple of stores then finally found it in Game Spot. They seemed to have plenty, but they weren't on display, I had to ask the store clerk.

Well, almost :)
Best Buy assures me that the copy I just bought via bestbuy.com is waiting for me for pickup at my local store.
If all goes well, tonight I get to find out how ugly a troll beastlord riding a mechanical pig is. My guess is, seriously ugly :)

I was told a few months ago by a Wal-Mart employee that the company uses a software stocking service. They show up once a week, and usually only the stocking service knows what is going to be put on the store shelves.
