What with the skeleton soldiers spawning in butcherblock? I had three attack me
at once. I was able to zone without dying. Is this something new from the
gamemasters to prevent people from just camping for hours?

Yes! I was minding my spiderling silk farming when the neat message
appeared that the skeleton army rises. Two seconds later I got a horde
of white cons on my back and was desperately trying to reach the pok
book in feerott. Didn't made it. :(

Now the interesting question is: Are the fableds back too? :)

They were around 6 months ago for EQ's 5th anniversary celebration.

Ah, they're back eh?  They (and their nastier big brothers/sisters)
were an Anniversary feature, and may be making an All Hallows Eve
encore, maybe.

Some of the big ones had nice no-drop items then...

These are actually different than the skeleton armies. The ones I saw
spawned (guessing here) at the chessboard in BB and returned there and
despawned (saw this) even while engaged in combat. The Skeleton Queen
seemed to have a huge regen, as the Rogue and SK that were fighting it
never got it below 94% before it despawned. The SK was level 66, as he
conned white to me, and the Rogue was Dark Blue.

Sounds like possibly part of one of the epic 1.5 quests.  I do recall a
few days ago that there was a broadcast indicating there was a GM event
probably going on in BBM, so it might have been that as well.

I got my lvl15 Rogue some really nice stuff, as she could sneak/hide
and most of the mob killers just said help yourself  :)  I got one of
those great bows (25 damage, good range and nice stat bonuses), the
Bladecatcher sword, that mask you got and a ring.  My Beastlord got
one of those nice 2hb things that procs a 40hp vampiric effect too.

Steel Rod of the Knight.  Nice weapon for low to mid level toon.
Found 2 of them just a while ago and did an /ooc rotting on the second
one for anyone nearby.

I'd avoid Qeynos Hills at night though unless you got a good group.
My friend (56 SK) went there twice.  Once all dressed up for the kill
and second time nekkid looking for his corpse.  Seems he camped right
in the middle of the spawn ground and couldn't shake 30 mobs long
enough to escape.  Their spawn spot is north of the smith sellers
along the trail.

Spawn area for EC is north-west of tunnel to Adventurer camp and NRo.
BB spawns all over the area from Gfay zone to DC zone.

Steamfront mountain has mob near the windmill.  I have not been to
Toxxula or Feerrott but I can't imagine Feerrott being easy being dark
area with the trees and fogs.

One of the last things I did in game (my account was reinstated for
the 5 year celebration, I played for 2 weeks till the new engine went
in) was get that staff for my fiance's monk. After getting a taste for
the skeletons, I got toys for a bunch of my alts, and leveled a gnome
sk from 3 to 7 or so by killing the tiniest skeletons and having them
kill her at intervals. Was the most fun I'd had in game in a long long
time :)
I don't miss the high end blah, but these days I find myself really
wishing I could be fiddling with half a dozen or so lowbies rather
than writing half a dozen or so papers.

I took my 19 froggy warrior to BB and lurked around the Dagnors zoneline,
venturing out whenever some kindly high-level char would announce rotting
loot.  I got the 2HB, 1HS, 1HB, and earring.  Are there any other pieces
a warrior would be interested in?  In particular, is there a 2HS?

The mask mentioned by an earlier poster looks fairly nice; I think
it would still be an upgrade for my 45 monk, so I'm trying to net
one.  The commanders are DB but I wasn't able to make much headway
soloing one of them and eventually had to feign death.

I see people talking about working on magic resist to deal with the
Fear cast by some of the skellies, and more generally I see people
talking about resists in the 100s and up.  Even at level 45, with
what I thought was some decent but hardly uber gear, I find mine
range from 40 to 75.  (Sorry, don't have a Magelo.)  How do people
get their resists so high?

Try bazaar and look for item that fits your class and race and look
under stats vs magic.  There should be a few item that you can get
that will raise magic resist by quite a bit.  Magic resist buff also
helps.  In the end, being higher level works the best.

I'm level 61, and I finally got the last of my resists to 100 or more.
It's possible to do it at level 45, but if you had that kind of gear,
you wouldn't need the mask.

However the answer to your question, is it eventually becomes
important to focus on the resists offered by the equipment you get as
much as it is the other stats. Particularly if you intend to raid,
having high resists is important. However with the number of one
groupable targets these days that have nasty DoTs and AoEs that you'd
like to avoid and also many mobs cast fear, so that's nice to resist.
(It's really embarrassing when a green fears you.)

The best way to get a specific resist up is with augments. (Though the
magic ones tend to be hard to come by) Otherwise you should start to
focus on equipment with resists on it. (Honestly it won't be come
important to you for a number of levels.) To combat this particular
menace though, find a Enchanter willing to cast Magic Resist buff on
you to resist the Fear, and find a Shaman to cast a Poison/Disease
resist on you to resist the DoTs.

Just logged in my main real quick in BB, yes they are the same mobs that were
spawning during the anniversary. The large skellies were dropping the same loot as
before ( had a rod and a sword drop in 2 minutes ), but I didn't see any fabled (
however I was just on for a few minutes )

I had my ranger foraging in Steamfont today and noticed a zonewide message
something to the effect of "The ground shakes as the undead rise up"  or
something paraphrased like that... my screen shook like it was an
earthquake... was pretty cool looking.

I was near the Ak Anon zone, so I did not see any new mobs, don't know where
or what spawned.

They spawn mostly near the wind mill so you're probably too far south
to see it.

Just a thought, you might want to make sure your bind point is not at
BB camp.  Someone died in BB, returned to the bind point in the camp
and died again.  And again before the toon zoned safely.

Hmmm...is that a reference to some movie, or is ground shaking as undead
rise up a common thing in horror fiction, or what?  I'm curious because that
is pretty similar to the message that happens in DAoC in a zone that has a
similar regular undead uprising, so I'm guessing there is some common myth
or legend about undead that both sets of zone designers were drawing from.

I was in Steamfront last night with my lvl 9 Bard and they were spawing near
the PoK book too.  They were all 6 - 12 that I saw and after the first "zone
in" and overwhelmed death, I levekld him up quite nicely there.  Easy escape
when more than 4 would pop on me.

No great drops from these, but nice xp when I was just using the zone to get
to CB.  (I know there is a book in GF but I would rather run that distance
there than in Plane of Knowledge.  I hate the lag in PoK)

Hi All :)

I had a go at these in East Commons, with my 21 Berserker, and the
spells the dark blue red-coloured skeletons cast are horrendous!  I
could manage the fighting ok, but with 3 dots and a fear on me, I
killed the damn thing, but died because of the dots, even though I was
bandaging like mad  :D  The casting range is incredibly long, too - I
pulled it carefully with a thrown axe from max range (125) and ran
with SoW to a place we could fight uninterrupted.  Even though it was
miles away, the spells rained down on me!

I will reluctantly have to rely on charity from high-level types who
might let me pick up their no-drop leavings, but dammit I want to earn
one of those 2hb thingies myself!

I can see little point in "special event" mobs that drop stuff
high-level types just don't want, and that characters suitable to the
zone have no chance of getting through honest toil. Bah, humbug ;)

Basically had the same thing happen to me last night.  A Trooper Skelly
conned blue to my Enchanter but before I could get off a spell I was feared
and dotted.  My lvl 20 pet did some damage to it but I was being fear kited
by 4 greens and never made it back to help my pet.  Needless to say I was
able to find my corpse when the sun came up.
I camped in the cave so I am ready to give it another try tonight.

I even tried with my 41 mage and the focus-summoned pet (Stein) and
had the same thing.  Dark blue con, pet goes in (+86 points of
summoned armour and purchased Fists of ixiblat) then I get Feared just
like before...  I'm running full pelt away from the fight, picking up
aggro as I go.  I JUST managed to bail out via Gate in the few seconds
of control I had.

In the whole "fight" I never got off ONE offensive spell :D

Gotta work on the magic resists.  I have had several resisted fear
message with my 57 beast but I already had better stuff than what they
dropped.

My brother did have some fun.  Last night, he was the only one of 2 (I
was the other but sat by and did nothing) in the whole EC at sun down
and used his 65 SK to round up the whole lot and tanked them all at
once and lived. He was able to log on his 22 ranger to loot up the
corpses.

I also captured a shot of about 30 skelly chasing an chanty to the
cave.  Probably not a record for train but a big one nonless.

At last year's event I took in my highest character, a Necro, and started
killing left, right, and centre (and being killed twice).  I left a few
items to rot, with /oocs of where they could be found.  However, I got what
I was after, 200 bone chips in the bank.

I've found some fine steel weapons as well, but it does seem to be
that the special drops come only from the commanders, which thank
heavens do not come near the PoK book or LDON camp.

From the sound of it, you're hunting in Butcherblock?  (The skels
appear in 5-6 zones, as I recall.)  Try wandering further afield,
especially southwest from the camp toward the Dagnor's Cauldron
zone, and you should find lots to keep you busy. :-)
