EQ2: Weapon Question

I played a rogue in EQ1 up to 46 and used the usual weapons. I'm looking at
going down the Scout route in EQ2 but I have a weapon question.

I saw via the official site what weapons (at least some) that a Scout can
use. I've also seen via videos from various places that Scouts seem to be
dual wielding this and that. My question is are you locked into "most
effective" weapon choices like EQ1. For instance will my Scout be just as
effective in combat if he used a staff versus going with a dual wielding EQ1
Ranger/Rogue combo.

I'm asking because now that the EQ2 info floodgates have opened I am having
a tough time deciding what to play. As stated above the Scout route seemed
interesting with the goal being Ranger and I was thinking a Bow/Staff combo
would be nice. Any handicap in this?

So bottomline are there "EQ1-like" weapon restrictions in EQ2? For instance
you'd never see a Rogue or Ranger in EQ1 using a staff even though if
would've been neat.

Thanks.

Well that's a great question and I really wish I could answer it.  I am
playing a bard, just dinged 16, and am duel wielding myself.  I wanted to DW
a short type staff along with a dagger or something when I realized I do not
even have staff or Bo in my skill profile.  So thinking maybe I needed to
start off using one I created a second character with the intention of
starting off using a staff or Bo.  Problem was right after completing the
tutorial I went to the noob island merchant and found I did not even qualify
for the lowliest staff.  Now with today's patch they have started advancing
different skills during and after battle (until today you were just advanced
in many skills at "mini-dings" and when acquiring a new level.  I have even
had someone tell me that if staff / bo is not in my skill set then my class
is not eligible, but according to the EQII site scouts are.  So at this
point I'm trying to figure it out myself.

I CAIN'T USE ME BLUIDY AXE!!!!!

Yes, there are weapon restrictions.  I found out the hard way that Crusaders
can't use battle axes, after I used it from Level 3 to Level 10.

Reyder Axeman, still seriously ticked Dwarven Paladin.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know of any any sites that list up to date weapon restrictions for
the classes? The sites I've found all seem to mirror what the official site
says and I am betting that does't reflect any of the beta changes and thus
what will be seen on the 8th.

Looking to avoid learning the hard way. =)

Thanks.

Wish I could give you an answer but I honestly don't know what the various
weapons restrictions are. My recommendation for getting as much as an answer
as you're gonna get is to post this same question in the official EQ2 public
forums. Many of the beta players read that forum, and even those who haven't
played are in some cases tracking tons of data.

I'd give you a link right to the forums themselves but the cookies on my
machine will try and take you to the beta forums and you'll get stopped
there. Go to the above link and choose Forums on the righthand side. Lots of
noise to wade through, but tons of information.

Thanks for the link Bob. But what voodoo is required to post on these
forums? I am trying to post on the General Discussion forum but I cannot for
the life of me get the "New Message" icon to un-grey. I went so far as to
create a new account (even though I had one) then I signed up for the goofy
fan-club, and finally I altered my profile thinking I could shake some board
cookies around. I am shown as being logged in and everything is a go except
for the fact that I can't post. Arg.

Could the boards be beta testers only right now?

Thanks,

Hmm, can't figure that one out. If you did the fan club thing you should
have posting rights. There generally is some email verification step that's
involved somewhere, did you do that? I suspect that's a part of the fan club
step but it might be something you do back on the forums before you can
post. Check you profile and account options.

Don't think it's just beta testers because there's been a public forum all
along. Unless something's changed recently.

Should've included that info sorry. Yes I got the email verification,
clicked to respond and it all went through.

Hmmm, well I'll keep at it then. I'll try emptying the browser cache and
deleteing all my cookies in the morning.

Thanks for the reply and for the other EQII info posts. You're quite the
mmorpg info dispenser. I remember asking you questions about AO before it
went live. =) I don't play anymore but it was good ride while it lasted.

AO is an interesting case. Here was a game that was more fun in beta than it
was in release, and most fun in Beta3 -- they screwed lots of things up in
Beta4. Then of course was the tragic launch that seemed to be affecting most
everyone except me. I think the reason that I was spared much of the grief
was because I managed to get far enough away from cities and missions to
avoid many of the big problems. The two characters I two-boxed (dual
Traders) hadn't yet been nerfed, so using wrangles and drains I was able to
cascade my skills up to the point of being able to use ridiculous weapons,
so I was soloing reds and oranges out in the woods. I died a few times when
things went south, but the challenge of being able to sustain that
ransack/deprive chain was fun and got me leveled up pretty fast. I hear that
Funcom has made a pretty decent game out it since, but I've resisted all
efforts to lure me back.

How did they wind up handling the spawn camping? Did they stop putting spawn
points in pvp areas? Talk about noob mmog pvp mistakes ...
