KDragon - 28 Oct 2004 21:24 GMT Anyone else crashing out within seconds of logging? Maximum I've lasted so far is 20 seconds. I brought up the spell window, then hit the "/" to mark myself /afk, kaboom, lol.

I assume you are talking about EQ2 -- There's a weird bug that showed up today. Reboot your computer then repatch, shouldn't have that LD happen again. There's a dev post in the beta forum about that. Otherwise, there seems to be trouble all over in EQ2 today. The new spells suck, crafting is totally impossible, Lagtonica is back and with a vengeance. That game is totally not ready to go live on the 8th. I'm glad I dont' have a pre- order to cancel.

Rebooted and still crashed at the first "/"

See ya tomorrow I guess.

But I also reached the end of my Qeynos citizenship quest, but it can not be completed. I still have the original welcome to Qeynos book, but can't read it anymore.
They appear to have broken quite a few things with this patch. Since it is my first patch since I got in to beta I don't know how typical or atypical today's result is. But it makes me a bit nervous about release.

Sounds to me like they're having the kinds of problems you'd encounter during alpha stages of the development process, not beta stages of the development process, *especially* given the fact they're only two weeks from launch. The code should be essentially gold at this point.

The code should be essentially gold at this point. Not that I like SoE or that I even plan to play EQ2, but if you think patch code can't dork up a perfectly stable system you're going to be sorely disappointed in every apsect of technology.
I've seen rock-stable software get dorked because of a patch to add a new feature or even fix a previous bug. It happens, even if the code was "gold" up to that point.
And there's nothing to indicate the current code is stable anyway, so it's a double whammy. But it's not restricted to anything alpha.

The software product my company makes occassionally goes into patch mode. I can assure you that my patches don't "dork up" anything vital or important two weeks before the product is due to be released. This goes for the rest of the software developers, too.

Period. If a show stopper does happen, something is wrong with the development process which should be addressed.

Oh, and the problem with being able to use the tradeskill 'spells' outside of tradeskilling for skill increases. /bug'd that.

I saw 2 woodworking symbols (after working out which symbols were for whoch skills - cost me some health working that out) which were very similat - both planks of wood. However, one has a ruler along the bottom, and the other doesn't.
Is this what you're referring to ?

I've got those two icons on my secondary bar, so the ruler at the bottom is hidden by Alt-8. Looked identical with that hiding it.
I took quite a bit of time to rearrange each of the icons in groups depending upon what crafting category they belonged too. General icons for daydreaming, etc, then alchemy, arcana, etc. Makes it much easier to hunt for the appropriate icons when you only have to worry about a smaller group depending upon what your crafting.
Of course, it kind of threw me at first that crafting paper at the arcana station required woodworking icons. That almost killed me.

Yeah, I now have 3 toolbars full of tradeskill icons, split into groups, with a space between them. Now I just need to remember which skills are for which trade..
And I also find it weird that there are a lot of overlaps. There's one button, looks like a blue cube, which seems to be almost universal at increasing both quality AND time - I often get +5 +50 when using it. Handy after taking a few hits to quality.

I brought up the spell window, then hit the "/" to mark > myself /afk, kaboom, lol. Had the same problem and my 2 accounts are both running fine after a machine reboot. I think the problem is that the patch installed a file that requires Windows to restart, so you need to reboot your machine. After I did that on both machines I was in and stable with no problems.
I heard that Antonica was down and laggy so I stayed away from there and focused on tradeskilling. Holy crap did they change that world. The spells are all different, they've been segregated across different world devices, and all new dependencies have developed for 20+ items. I have new recipes for Alchemy 20, 21 and 22 but can't make any of the potions, poisons or 20+ combat art essences without the participation of Jewelers to make Advanced Potion Vials and they need from me Hexanoid Loam to make those. Except I'm missing the recipe. ALL of the prices changed and so spells cost me about twice as much to make now. In all the confusion over the new system and the new pricing, not many people are actually making things. Within 10 seconds of my putting a dozen Runes and Spells on my merchant, they started selling and were sold out in a few minutes.
Patch day. Gotta love it. :)

It was killing me on the second character typed in the chat window, consistently. Didn't affect the bug window, so I /bugged it.
Tried playing without texting, but got kicked after a couple of minutes. So, off to the website, found the "reboot your machine" post. Did so, no problems after that.
Other things, however...
The new crafting symbols, a whole truckload of them, are seriously gibbled. Found that I could get skillups just by randomly poking them, that was useful. Found that *any* symbol could be used as a response while working at the woodworking table. Had to use matching ones at the forge, though. That was painful to find out. Also, the casting bar's gone missing when using the modifier "spells".
Prices on the vendors got modded a bit, here and there. And I found a lovely exploit. Sale price on tin arrows was set to 125 pence. Now, construction price figures out to 134 pence, so no problem. Until you remember that construction makes about 7 arrows. It got bugged, of course. Arrow price this morning is now set to 7 pence. That's actually overkill. Break-even's at about 13 pence.
Also, vendors are now offering slightly different prices depending on the quality of what you're selling. All of my previous experience was that the prices were identical for, say, crude / shaped / normal / pristine elm lumber.
Live in 2 weeks, and I'm preordered. Oh, I've also got 4 days of holidays booked starting the evening of the 10th.
I've got a fit, now I just have to find a shan.
