EQGame.exe trouble

Lance Berg - 15 Sep 2004 04:22 GMT Downloaded the patch this morning and some more this afternoon, finally got around to trying to log on a few minutes ago... and I'm not getting close to getting in.
I kep downloading mischiefplane.txt, then getting to the downloads complete and seeing the whole OOW patch message.
Hit play, I get my windows screen, the EQ box appears down on my taskbar for a second, then my screen sort of blinks for a split second, and I get a pop up box saying that EQgame.exe has encountered a problem and has to terminate, which it procedes to do.
Could be worse, could have decide to exterminate...
But anyway, I went in and deleted the eqgame.exe, repatched and downloaded it again, no dice. Tried killing the mischiefplane.txt file, no joy.
No EQ for me today, which honestly is fine I'm too tired to do more that just take a peek. But its frustrating.

You may want to delete the eqclient.ini, eqgfx_dx8.dll, eqgraphicsdx9.dll, eqmain.dll, and eqgame.exe from your EverQuest directory. One or more of those files maybe corrupt, causing these issues. To locate your EverQuest directory: Double Click the ?MY COMPUTER? icon Double Click the ?C? drive (or the drive where you installed EverQuest) Double Click the ?PROGRAM FILES? folder Double Click to the installation of EverQuest (By default: ?SONY\EVERQUEST? or ?EVERQUEST?
Once you have located your EverQuest directory, please select, right click and ?DELETE? each of the following files: EQCLIENT.INI EQMAIN.DLL EQGFX_DX8.DLL EQGRAPHICSDX9.DLL EQGAME.EXE
If you only see the first part of the file name (ie. ?EQCLIENT? instead of ?EQCLIENT.INI?) you should delete that file.just did it and im in!lee
Wayne - 15 Sep 2004 10:17 GMT Gidday all,
Nicely done Lee, no problems on my main computer but when I copied it across to my laptop I was having the same problems as you. Deleted these files and once they had been downloaded again, no problems.
Thanks.
Regards,
Wayne...

After getting in, I backed out and restored my EQClient file, which is the only one I cared about keeping since it contains many of my settings... but got the same result.
Guess I'll have to go thru and set all the options and colors again.
BUT it did work, thanks for finding and posting the solution :)

Graphics were set to medium and 640*800.
I fooled around with a lot of these, then tried to play and boom, same problem as before.
Thinking back, during the patch I'd gone in and changed something, can't recall what, one of the models from luclin to pre luclin or something.
Apparantly there's something about changing the EQCLient file thats getting messed up. I wonder how playable the game is going to be set the way it comes by default.
