Yep, oddly the level of your target is completely irrelevant for archery
skill ups.

BUT the easiest way to get archery skill ups is to find someone fighting
mobs somewhat higher level than yourself, and getting permission to
stand off in the distance and shoot at their mobs.  Assuming you won't
be doing over half the damage needed to kill a mob that's higher level
than yourself, you won't be taking any exp, and its also unlikely you'll
get aggro.

The important thing to do, though is to make really really sure you
aren't attacking mezzed mobs.

Oh, and since your damage output is irrelevant, what you want are really
cheap arrows, and the fastest bow you can find (more shots per hour this
way)

Haste Gear and a Haste Buff will help too

And get your.. Dex I think.. as high as you can.

The basic answer is no. If you are like <<10 you might as at very low
levels you can still get xp from just green mobs and may get archery
skillups though I'd guess they will be few and far between.

Best bet is to practice archery on dark blues and higher. Take up
fletching for you will use an awful lot of arrows -- use the cheap
ones to shoot, sell back the expensive ones, you will find out what I
mean :). Root and shoot is the usual tactic as well as snare and bow
kite. Damage is relatively laughable at low levels but it can be done.

I did root and shoot in my mid 20's on Aviaks in South Karana. I maxed
(140) my skill for my level (archery was about 40 when I started
that). Took several trips and a lot of arrows.

I'm pretty sure archery is unlike melee skills in that you can skill
it up on greenies.

Many moons ago I got really lucky around level 45 or so and found a
Tolan's Bracer up for sale at like 2k plat.  (I think they guy priced
it to match other Tolan's gear--helm, vambraces--not realizing what he
had).  I would summon a few hundred arrows and kite down an orc in
Eastern Wastes.  It took, literally, around an hour to kill one.  It
was horribly slow.  But I took archery up from a dismal level to the
max.

Can you still get skillups on Nexus Scions?  They are permarooted,
dont summon, have no faction hits, and if you dont have eq/am3, you
wont be killing them anyway.  (Just make sure you zone before getting
anywhere near her again--she will squish you in melee range)  FYI, I
believe that a Ranger is the only class that can solo a Nexus Scion.
I did it once...just to say I did it.  It took me a loooooong time.  I
had archery and CF, etc, maxed.  Swifty haste and clicky haste.  It
still took me 1 to 2 hours.  What other class can do that?

Nexus Scions do summon.  I life burned one for fun once.

i tried to skill up archery just a few weeks ago.  i'd been fletching for
awhile and was able to make class 2 bone hooked arrows (3 damage and about
150 range i think....) then i went to DSP (the shrooms were dark blue to me
a the time) and i rooted one and shot at it with my bow (30 damage and like
35 attack delay or something, i don't remember) it took about half an hour
to actually kill the damn thing, then i noticed that my archery hadn't gone
up at all.  went and checked eq casters and realized that archery for a
pally caps at 75 (i know pally's really just use archery for pulling and
there's no really good reason to increase it, but i was bored and i thought
it'd be easy to get up).  Anyways, it used about 5 stacks of arrows for 1
shroom, and i ended up getting screwed over cuz i already had archery capped
(doh!).  i did, however, get my fletching from like 70 something to 95ish,
so it wasn't a total loss i guess....

i guess i kinda started to ramble there.  anywho, if i could get archery
above 75, that would have done it.  and 5 stacks of arrows=100 shots, so it
would probably help you alot.
