Lewzephyr - 12 May 2004 15:03 GMT anyone able to post it if there is one.... I hate it when they patch and don't give any info... There is no update at EQLive, but that's about on par with their history.

Headlines! Gates of Discord content retuned!
Gates of Discord ------------------- - Zone experience modifiers were increased in all zones from Tipt/Vxed and beyond. - Natimbi, Qinimi, Barindu, Riwwi, and Ferubi should be tuned more appropriately for their intended level ranges. - NPCs will no longer hit for max damage as often. Knights in particular should find it easier to tank the NPCs they previously had difficulty with. - Ikkinz -- Guilds no longer have to flag every member in order to complete the Ikkinz trials. Only one person needs to complete all events/raids to start the seventh Ikkinz trial. At that point, all players who complete the seventh trial will get full credit for the zone. - NPC innates have been adjusted to behave a little more reasonably. - Zone travel has been made easier. Animal aggression was lowered by changing their faction and See Invis percentages were reduced on several NPCs. - Spell drops have been increased. - Increased the rate of cash drops. - The mini bosses in Qvic now have a more appropriate respawn rate. Their item drop rate has been increased to compensate for this. - Breakdown in Communication quest now has improved rewards!
Collision ------------------- More improvements to the collision system should make it a lot more difficult to get stuck.
Misc. ------------------- The Eye of Zomm will once again open closed doors.

This is much more important than the random freezeups I and many players are having in PoK. It's not like the PoK is the central hub for most of the 60-and-up content or anything.

It's up to 30 minutes as I recall from what GMs have said in the past, not a minute or two. Also personal experience indicates the up to 30 minutes or so to be correct.

If I get locked up and go link dead, and have to wait 30 minutes for the server to synchronize, does that mean my No Rent items will have gone away by the time I can reconnect, or is my character still considered to be "on line" (which is why I have to wait) so the clock isn't running on those items?

If the error is 'you already have an active character logged in' you are fine afaik. If its unable to connect to the patch server or something you are probably SOL.

Gee I think Sony should hire more than one programmer.
FYI: they are still working on the PoK freeze ups.

While I agree with you that the freeze-ups are more annoying and important to get fixed, the eye of zomm thing is probably a single setting change requested by a lot of people -> very easy and takes very little time.
Tracking down random freeze-ups is most likely a lot more involved, especially if there is no reliable way to trigger the problem.
Debugging problems that can't consistently be reproduced is VERY difficult. And yes I'm a programmer.

Russell - 14 May 2004 02:57 GMT > > Misc. > > ------------------- [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > ~Empty Well, if they didn't fix the Eye of Zomm problem someone would be complaining about their ignoring easy problems.
I have had the freezeups too. A couple of times just as my character appeared on PoK on logon. Other times when the character was turning to head off somewhere -- funny, it has to be a video lock for I can still hear the PoK music playing. It is very irritating.
I have not the faintest idea (other than an USWAG that something is occasionally interacting badly with dx9) why the freezeups. I imagine the developers and programmers are scratching their heads trying to figure it out too. Although the problem occurs only every so often (IME), I think it is very true that an intermittent or seemingly random problem is the hardest to track down.
If someone can consistently cause the problem, then it will probably be solved fairly quickly, at least for those circumstances, just like the Eye of Zomm not opening doors.
Here's hoping they figure out what the heck is happening.

c11man - 28 May 2004 19:08 GMT > > > Misc. > > > ------------------- [quoted text clipped - 30 lines] > > =30= I only get the freeze up when I'm playing my main, 64 magician, never an alt. Every time it happens, I've just left the big bank, am heading towards the Nexus/Qeynos/PoT/Freeport stones section of PoK, I'm levitated and using J-Boots. If I am not flying or not using J-Boots or headed to a different area of PoK it has never froozen up on me. Only with those combinations do I get the bug. And yes, when I forget to click off J-Boots or Levitate, I will get the freeze up and a nice ten minute wait to get back into game.
My theory , is that there is a graphic string from one of the trees that is so small as to be not rendered by our cards, but when we get stuck because you can't run through the tops of trees in PoK unlike the trees in WKarana for example, the computer goes into logic circles because something that isn't there ( minute branch of tree sticking way out) stops us and the computer can't let us go forward but this object doesn't corespond to known object co-ordinates and so the logic circle is created and the lock-up occurs. Just a theory. Thanks Sony for all the wasted time :-D

It's unlikely that whoever fixed Eye of Zomm could have done anything to fix PoK, so he might as well fix Eye of Zomm, rather than just sit in his office waiting for PoK to get fixed.

Still, I bet the guy who tested both those items doesn't exist at all.
I wonder if SOE has a large room of varying rigs to beta on? If not, why?

Then, people who pretty much only play EQ can buy and configure an exact copy of one of these things, and rest assured that EQ has actually been tested to work on it...
Of course they won't do it, because someone would immediately build one, and promptly crash in the PoK, with a cone of sparkles around his head, while falling through the world, after getting stuck in a tree which he didn't see because the textures on it were invisible from the outside.
And thus any illusion that that the changes have to actually pass in the room-of-rigs before changes go live would be promptly dispelled.

Yay! Now if only they'd make it so my eye could swim a little bit faster. And so my eye's Z-axis movement wouldn't affect my Mage's position (at least, I -think- that's what's going on.)

No, don't think that's it... I was standing to cast EoZ in Kedge into a wall. Eyeball appears, switch to Eye POV in some other room, swim around a bit, don't spot Phinny... But, if I took the eyeball and swam upwards for a bit, when I snapped back to my character, I would find him floating about the same height above where he started. Is that synchrony of movement tied to auto stand somehow?
