I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but with the new
pet buff icon window, I got to wondering if charmed pets showed
that box too.
Got to wondering it real hard, in fact.
Because, you see, I was busily killing Snow Griffins trying to
gather some eggs for a friend. Long ago when I was doing this
for my cleric, we determined that they had either 5 or 6 buffs,
and that the buff order was random; in order to be sure of
killing the SOW you needed to remove all the buffs, which I could
do in three casts.
Well, today I'm a little 40 mage, and that means I have only
Cancel Magic to work with. Casting Cancel Magic 6 times in a row
is a lot of time spent not healing pet or nuking.
So I logged out, logged in my 57 bard on Morel Thule, and ran him
over to the zone. Found a griff very easily (funny how track and
blinding selos speed will get you a mob right away, while the
mage finds maybe one every ten minutes at best) and charmed it.
Sure enough, buff icon window. Showed only 4 buffs, plus a red
icon which was my charm song.
Skin like Rock, Riftwind's Protection, Firefist, and Spirit of
Wolf, in that order.
A) thats great news, I only have to take out four buffs, not six.
B) by taking them all out, I'm reducing HP, AC, Attack, removing
the DS, and of course the mission critical part, killing the
excessive run speed.
Now to be really sure I'd have to repeat the experiment several
times to see if all the griffs have the same buffs up in the same
order. And it would be handy to see which order they are removed
in; there's a good chance if I was removing the SOW first cast
every time I wouldn't bother with the others.
How many other mobs can we get buff information on this way, or
is there a resource out there somewhere where this information is
already known?

there are only a limited number of mobs that are "uncharmable". Uber
Dragons/Giants and anything 65 and up off the top of my head but lucy should
have the full exclusion list in the spell description...maybe not...but i
charmed a rock in an LDoN adventure last night and hit had been buffed by
another npc nearby apparently because it had feedback, alacrity, strenth,
and something else...was funny to see some low level chanter spells being
cast on what was going to turn into my pet. What also struck me as funny is
that some mobs start with buffs on them and some get casted, but i thought
they limited mobs to 8 spells like players in a patch a long time ago...is
that a foggy memory experience coming back to trick me?

The charm spell does not have a list of mobs that are uncharmable, rather,
some mobs are marked as immune to charm, same as ones that are immune to
movement speed changes, or immune to combat speed changes. The charm spell
(s) do have level limits, which differ for the different spells. I believe
it is level 64 maximum for Command of Druzzil.

Pardon my ignorance (my Bard is only 38) but would the (mostly
useless) Bard song Alenia's Disenchanting Melody not help to determine
the order that the buffs were stripped off your charmed pet?

Well, I haven't tried it yet, only just now got to thinking about
using Charm to find out what buffs various critters have in the
first place.
I'm not certain the melody will work. A) is it targetted or
group? If its group it won't hit your pet. B) even if it
targettable, does it work on your pet? There are differences in
what you can do to a pet (or PC, or group member, or yourself)
and what you can do to a mob. C) Does it work the same way as
the Cancel Magic line? D) if you use the melody, or a cancel for
that matter, does it work the same on a pet as it does on an
uncharmed mob? E) Is the first thing it removes always the
charm?
If I was playing my bard more at the moment, I'd experiment, but
I've been on my mage for months now except for brief forays on
the bard to explore... he's on a different server but can still
get a look around places and use track to find mobs so I know
what I'm looking for.

Its group, so I guess it won't work. Ah well, thought I had found a
use for it. Pity, because it is supposed to remove enchantments in the
order they were cast, so the charm would be the last to go.
