EQ crashing when ALT-TABBING  (or ALT-enter)

Anyone else had the problem (since the DX9 patch on 23rd March) where
ALT-tabbing (or ALT-enter) out of EQ caushes the EQ window to go black
and the game dies?  Sometimes you get the "eqgame.exe has died"
window, sometimes not.

Graphics card Gerforce4 Ti4200 with latest driver (56.64?) levels.

Yep. I have the same problem since the newest patch, same video card.

I've had trouble with that too.  If it were consistent, I'd know when it
was safe to alt-tab and when it wasn't.

This is a problem and I am sure they will have to patch for it .. has
happened once on each of my computers Radeon 9800 Pro and RAdeon
9600XT.  There is another thread on this started by Bizbee.

I've checked with  all my player friends and they are all having the problem
in windows mode regardless of video card brand.  I just suggest everyone
report the bug.  It's obviously something they'll have to patch sooner
rather than later.

I'm not trying to leave one of those annoying "Works on my machine"
messages, but just to add some additional data to the mix, I alt-tab all the
time on my 2nd machine and it never crashes. The machine usually runs my
trader account, but I use him to surf the web and do research, etc. when my
main has a question, so I'm constantly going in and out of EQ and
Allakhazam, etc. The machine is running a P4 and nVidia fx 5950 with most
recent drivers. There's obviously something causing this problem on many
machines, but I haven't seen it in this configuration.

Hi

Alt-tab is about the only thing left working on my AMD K6-2 550Mhz,
384MB memory, Geforce 2Ti Video Card :(

Framerates in old world zones are what I use to have in Luclin.

PoK is now like the Bazaar it takes 5mins from the Ak'Anon stone to the
Halfling bank.

The whole game is out of sync by a couple of seconds. Even though my
lagmeter is rarely above 5% on either side of the meter.

Targeting is impossible. I have to stand by a stationary NPC for a
couple of seconds before the "Out of Range" stops and I can interact
with them or hit them.

If it's moving or running forget it and zone unless you have a range
attack.

My machine worked reasonable well with DX8 now the game is unplayable.

But Alt-tab works :(

It works for me also, no problems at all there.

Same here. Prior to the patch, I had lag only in the bazaar. Now I have
it everywhere.

Most of the time, my meter is at zero, but I often run towards a mob,
only to have it "warp" further ahead of it's original direction of
travel. Like you, it then takes time to target it.

I have a brand new machine, and playability is terrible since the patch.
I play very little these days, it's simply not fun anymore. I really
hope they fix this soon!!! For comparison purposes, here is my system:

correction: it's "Anybody" not Anyone.... duh

Of course, if you haven't read my other post yet, this will make no
sense...

You could always reply to yourself to help it make more sense. But
then, you'd be talking to yourself, and talking to yourself definately
can't be considered healthy :)

Many years ago, a regular newspaper humor columnist (Erma Bombeck,
perhaps?) had a column discussing this sort of thing.  She started
out by saying something like, people say it's okay if you talk to
yourself, you're only in trouble if you answer.  She then went on
for a while about a time she asked herself a question and answered
it and so forth.  At the end, she said,

The other day I not only asked myself a question and answered it, but I
then said to myself, 'I didn't catch that; could you please repeat it?'

So I told myself, 'If you're not going to pay attention, I'm going to
  stop talking to you!'

  I'm in trouble.

I've always felt you were in trouble when you started losing arguments
with yourself.

I have the opposite experience, when I play on my laptop with a
GefForce4 Go 420 chip I can now switch back to fullscreen from windowed
mode, while before the patch that resulted in only a black screen.

Hope for your sake then that their fix isn't just to put it back how
it was before 8(

Mine started doing that about 3 days ago, worked fine prior to that.  Using
the latest NVidia driver with a FX5200 here.

Think you're right about the "about 3 days ago" thing.  After the
initial DX9 fix it wasn't so bad.  Now that they have done the 2nd
mini-patch for Intel video users it seems to be worse.

Further on this problem.  On the chat channel last night a couple of
people were saying that this is an AMD only problem....

Is anyone out there reading this getting this problem on Intel?

(note: the probelm only started happening when they put in the fix for
Intel video .... makes me wonder)

Intel user here with FX5900 and I had this problem up until the March 30
patch.  The temporary fix of turning anti-aliasing completely off worked for
me, but I turned it back to application-controlled today and it still seems
to be working.  Ironically my AMD machine with GF4 Ti 4200 was never
affected at all.

Well, I use AMD, Geforce 3, and haven't updated my drivers... think
they're 50.03?  I got a black screen sometimes when alt-tabbing a couple
days ago, but hitting alt-enter twice seemed to fix it.  Only had it
actually crash once.  And I could alt-tab beautifully this morning.

I was running around shopping and checking zones, never had a single
problem today, but as of last night it was getting so I crashed nearly
every time I changed... it even crashed a couple times when I went
from windowed mode to full screen. At least it appears that they fixed
that part, who knows whether or not they intended to...

yes, the first post was from me, an Intel user, followed by several
more from Intel users...

I have 2 systems running EQ (one Intel and one AMD) .. have only had
this problem once and it was on my Intel system not my AMD system.

Not true at all, I have an Intel processor, and doing ALT-Enter was
causing me to go to a black screen, and eventually, the game died.  It
seemed to be working after this last patch, about the only thing that did
seem to be fixed.
