Possible to run 2 accounts over 56k dialup?

A quick question for you learned people in my favourite Newsgroup :)

I'm about to move house and will be leaving my Cable Modem behind.

Does anyone know whether it is still possible to run 2 EQ accounts
simultaneously over a single 56k dialup line with connection sharing?

Two years ago my wife and I used to play on a dialup connection using
Internet Connection Sharing but that was pre-Luclin. Have the bandwidth
requirements increased to the point where you cannot now play 2 accounts
over a 56k connection or are we in with a chance of still being able to
play together?

Thanks in advance for any advice, words of encouragement/commiseration.

We ran 3 accounts over 56k with connection sharing before we got Broadband.
The only noticable difference was if we all zoned at once ....

Yes,  I ran 3 on my Modem inbetween getting ISDN turned off and ADSL turned
on.
Make sure your modem isn't a software (or Win) Modem, otherwise you will
likely have problems.

I also think I used Jolt as my ISP for this (0845 dial up) as my 24/7 Free
one from Claranet wasn't particularly good, even on one account.

EQ is not a bandwidth intensive game, except loading zones, which will be
where any crashes/disconnects will occur. Don't confuse improved graphics
with increased network traffic, all the server does is tell your PC what to
draw, it doesn't have to send the information on how to do it, that's
already there.  There were some patches, after Luclin,  that dealt with
bandwidth issues but I believe most of them saved some "here" to use it
"there" no actual reduction.

I admit I did blame the Luclin expansion (or one of it's following
patches...there were quite a few) for my constant disconnects on ISDN, I was
actually unable to run 3 accounts on a single 64k ISDN channel shortly after
the SoL expansion and needed to use 128k for all 3 to be able to zone...This
turned out to be BT not EQ at all, as I started noticing problems playing Q3
as well and, like I said, when I had to use a Modem I was able to run 3
accounts without problems.

afaik it's still possible. My friend ran 3 connects over 56k as late as
January.

I don't think the network bandwidth requirements have increased
that much. Nowhere near what the cpu/video requirements have, anyway.

Keep in mind that 56k dialup is never truly 56k. It might be very close
or might be substantially less depending on your wireline distance to
the telco central office and the topology of the telco network in between.

Even so, EQ's network bandwidth needs are low enough that two sessions
should be doable even over a subpar dialup connection. Zoning might get
rather slow but that's it.

Worked fine for me last night when my regular ISP was down, and I was using
a 33.6 modem.  If you want to prevent packet loss while zoning change the
number in DataRate.txt down a bit.  I use 3 when using a slower modem with
two accounts.
