*Hisses* Whoever at Quiznos decided to use those revolting, annoying
dead rats for their commercials needs to be fired. Now. Then shot.
They're horrendous. If anything, the make me lose my apatite rather

I don't mind them so much.... At least it's somewhat original and not
a typical cheesy commercial.

P.S. Quiznos is right down the street from my office in SF and this is
probably going to make me go there more often which is strange because
it's a franchise.... (you can't take 2 steps in SF without finding a
high quality local restaurant).  Kudo's to the Quizno's marketing team

I completely agree, in my opinion those rats represent the infastation of
rats living in the restraunt, and since the rats brag on how good the food
is, they must be eating it.. which would suggest they are walking around on
the tables and food and stuff. thats just gross.   I used to keep hamsters
as pets, but they werent UNDEAD, and they didnt have bulging eyes, and they
DIDNT go anywhere NEAR my kitchen.

the launch of these commercials added them to my list of restraunts I will
NEVER go to again. they are the second entry, first is a place called
Checkers.
More money for whataburger I suppose. im a big fattie that likes fast food:P

in closing, it wouldnt surprise me if within a year they went bankrupt.

Thats where I am, mobile, al.

Their latest line uses the slogan "you gotto eat" and I just dont like it.
its really not all that bad but I think the commercials themselves are
inconsiderate to the overweight, it mentions at some point in the something
about not being able to resist. having no choice, you gotto come eat.  im
fairly easy going and dont get offended by much but I found that offensive
as hell, I infact do have a choice, I can resist, and will never eat there
again.

That's obviously because English didn't eat, and therefore died.

It wasn't the sentiment he was objecting to, it was the way it

I think most people are smart enough to realize it's just a commercial
and won't think that Quiznos actually have rats in their restaurants.
I'd be rather shocked if they went bankrupt over this.

I'd be shocked if most people were as smart as you give them credit for.
Obviously the commercial is a gimmick, and whether you love it or hate it,
you *remember* it and you're talking about it.  That's what they were aiming
for, and they hit the mark dead on.  It's like that report about Howard
Stern's listeners in his movie.  I don't remember the quote but the gist was
the people who hated him listened even longer than the people who loved him.
All you folks complaining about the commercial are unwittingly making it
successful.  I thrive on irony.

I'd be shocked if most people remember which store the scary rat people ad
is for.  I didn't, until I saw the thread title.  But then, I've never
been to a Quizno's, and ain't likely to, either.  My choice is for a more
subtle reason, though.  I can never remember if it's them or that other
chain with a green and red logo that took over my favorite cafe and made
it a lousy place to hang out.

For me, it's nothing to do with thinking the commercial means they
have rats in their restaurants (I don't). It's the fact that they're
running a commercial that turns my stomach with its imagery and makes
me want to shove a pen in my ears with the horrid singing. Yeah, I
change the channel. But a company that runs a commercial that bad is
going to drive away more people than it attracts. ><

You realize, of course, that the *effect* of these commercials is that
everyone is now talking about "the Quiznos Rats". For every one like you who
swears at them and promises ever to eat there again, there will be some
number (4 or 5? 100?) who will start eating at Quiznos just because they
remember the commercials and this discussion.

There's an old saying in the PR and advertising business: "There's no such
thing as bad publicity". Quiznos wins either way.

The fact is, all chain sub shops suck. Togo's is incredibly
inconsistant... I've had great stuff there, and I've had the same
thing at a different shop that was putrid. Quizno's is good, but is
way more expensive than it should be. Subway borders on being Oscar
Meyer bologna on white bread with yellow mustard grade food. The best
always comes from an independent deli that slices the meat fresh and
let's you pick and choose what to put on. All the others are basically
McDonalds with grinders.

I got introduced to Jason's Deli the other day at work... definitely going

but either their food or their personnel (or both!) have declined to the point

GAH, ok ok... Jason's Deli can be good,  but when its bad... be ready
for a full day in the bathroom dealing with the way the food is
handled.....
a friend described it to me the best I think...  "Its like some high
school / college kid needed a job and hates their job but works their
anyways and punishes the customers for making them work."

so take it for what its worth...  can be good... but when its bad...
you wont go back...

They look like DEAD rodents for one thing. And the mouth and eyes that
are photoshopped onto them... The mouths look like someone seriously
in need of a dentist... The overall effect of the pasted together rats
just turns one's stomach. Add into it the BAD singing...So bad, they
need to add speech bubbles so you have a hope of understanding what
they hell they're saying.

yeah, its definately the dead look that turned me off too... like I said in
a previous post I used to keep hamsters, so them simply being rats didnt
really bother me.. much.

Well, my GF and I think it's hilarious.  To each their own, I suppose.
OTOH, neither of us is a fan of Quiznos subs.

Of course I do. An argument is an intellectual process, not just the
automatic gainsaying of what another person says. It's not just saying
"No, it isn't."

While I don't particulary like it, I am more likely to go to Quiznos than I
was before I saw the commercial.

They dont look dead to me, although the eyes and mouths do look bad, its
funny, I see them do the same stuff to celebrity photos on SNL and MADTV.  I
think even Leno and Conan do it.  The bad singing doesn't bother me but hey,
to each his own.  While I dont want to run out and buy Quizno's the
commercial is memorable because it is bad, they want people to remember
their ad do they not?

That's all i have to say

I think part of it is that the photoshopped-in features are human.  I have
no objection to the singing cats in a meow-mix commercial, even though
there's obvious photoshopping involved.  The stuff on Leno and Conan is
also usually human features on a human background.  I think the mixing
human and rodent is what turns the stomach.  But it could be that the eyes
don't move or blink.  Or the eeeky whiny voice.  That's what really gets
me.  It bugs me even if I'm not looking at the TV.  My GF is pretty quick
with the mute button, though.

More than simply that the mouths are human-ish, they're unhealthy,
twisted looking human-ish mouths. A human mouth "dubbed" onto a human
face isn't bad, though. I never see them dub such ugly mouths onto
human pictures in the SNL bits. (And MadTV is a pale imitation of SNL.
Modern SNL. And that's bad... >< )

Aha! Shlotsky's (sp?)!  I'll bet they're that other place with the green
and red logo that wiped out my favorite cafe!

An informal poll of some neighbors:

Love the commercial, love Quiznos, eat there all the time:
 1 votes
Love Quiznos, the commercial's a bit scary, will still eat there:
 2 votes
Used to like Quiznos, but won't eat there now that they have scary rats:
 1 vote (my girlfriend)
What's Quiznos?  Those rats are ick.  Should I be scared?
 1 vote (me)

So the question is, what's scariest?
(a) The rats' eyes?
(b) Their mouths?
(c) Their chalkboard-scratchy voices?

For further discusion:  They say you can get a dollar off with any coupon.
Any coupon at all.  What's the weirdest coupon you could think of taking
them?

And, on the subject of green and red logos... I love the Emerald Nuts
commercials.  Envious Nomads!  Evil Navigators!  Bwahahahha.

Mmm.  Time for more coffee.

why would they stop going there? Some people will try a place, and not
like it. Others will like it and stay. People that go there all the
time will continue to go there all the time. They don't give a damn
about people that do neither. That's how business works.

The whole point of a commercial is to get people to go to the restaurant (or
any retail establishment) in the first place.  What you're selling is
supposed to bring people back, all the commercial needs to do is get the
customer to try it.  If that commercial gets people to go to Quiznos who
wouldn't have before, that's all it needs to do.  The commercial just gets
their foot in the door.
