I'm way outta touch. My son says he saw Doom3 at Best Buy. I didn't think it
was out. Maybe he saw Doom2?
Which Doom is the latest?
When did it come out?
How are the graphics?
Does it have joystick support?

Thanks,
Gary

Doom2 is still the latest available to buy; Doom 3 isn't finished yet.
As always, "When it's done" is the line from id. Gotta love Carmack :)

That was the original quote - I was using a misquote of it as a humourous
comment on the current Doom 3 release situation.

Lt. Saavik, Star Trek no. something-or-other.

Yeah, but the teaser box is already out on the shelves.

So my son could have seen that and thought it was the game?
How about joystick support in Doom 2 and does anyone know if Doom 3 is
supposed to have it?
And what are the graphics like in Doom 2? I guess there is no demo, so I
have to ask.

The same as the original Doom, they were released only a year apart.
Doom 2 was basically the sequel to Doom.

öhh, here is some basic things.
1) Latest Doom legaly available is TNT Evilution or Plutonia
experiement, not Doom 2.
2) Your son has seen Collectors edition of DooM, it includes Final
DooM,DooM II and TNT evilution and Plutonia Experiement.
3) About old DooM engine. It supports joystick, and has very good 2,5D
graphics, but you can have same stuff at free. You can play those DooM's
in windows, because they include latest patches and WinDooM binary.
4)TNT and plutonia came out about 1996 or 97, I am not sure. those vere
orginally a Add-On packs to DooM II. But then these "Add-Ons" evolved to
stand alone products. DooM II was relased 95 and Doom was relased 91.
AMAZING!!! ;) (sorry if I remember wrong.)
5)Go to www.doom3.com for information about DooM III

No, (actually not to be an argumentave prick here), the Doom 3 (Legacy, I
think it's name is?) pre-buy teaser box is on the shelves already (at least
it was when I over at Electronics Botique about two weeks ago).

The Shareware version of Doom was released on December 10th 1993 :)
GTX_SlotCar - 09 Jan 2004 03:34 GMT
Thanks for all the info. He did see the promo box. I just saw it also. I
didn't know there were so many Doom variations. I've played Doom a lot when
it came out. Hated the ending :-)
I had an idea that Doom2 was released in '95, but thought Doom was '90.
Shows how much I know.
I'll just sit and wait for Doom3... unless something better comes out in the
meantime.

The Doom3 box in the stores is nothing but an attempt to get your money. The
rumored release date is March, 2004...we'll have to wait and see.
