ATI sucks - 29 Aug 2004 12:02 GMT
Before you think about spending your hard-earned money on ATI products
you should realize some facts.

For one, not only is ATI hardware second rate, but their drivers are
always full of bugs. They even warn you against installing the latest
drivers, saying only install the drivers if you are having a problem
with the previous drivers.

I just upgraded my system to 3.2 P4 E CPU on an Asus P4P800-E DX
motherboard, and I don't even know if my Radeon 9800 is running at 8X
AGP. The "Smart Gart (tm)" bullshit - which is supposed to tell you
what rate your video card is running at - is turned off, and the
computer becomes unstable when you try to turn it on.

Then I was f.cking stupid enough to buy an ATI TV Wonder card. Before
I upgraded I was able to get it running after installing and
uninstalling various drivers. But every time I turned on the TV I had
to turn on the "line in" because the idiot program shut it off. Now
when I turn on the TV with the latest drivers it crashes while
watching it. And not only that, it won't shut down, not even with
Windows XP Task Manager. I have to shut down and turn off the power to
get rid of the worthless piece of sh.t.

(Not to mention all the problems you get with the voice being out of
sync…)

ATI products are a sad joke. Hopefully the company will go out of
business so people won't get duped into buying worthless crap and end
up wasting their hard-earned dollars.

But if you want second rate performance and a lot of headaches, buy
ATI products. But if you have any f.cking sense you will avoid them
like the plague.

Another satisfied ATI customer :/

Damn, now I'm going to have to get a refund on my x800Pro. Thanks for
putting me straight. I feel so stupid now.

Oh... hang on. I love my x800, despite the number of extra hours I had to
work to get it. Maybe I'm ill or something?

Andrew McP

PS FWIW I'm not a big fan of *any* make of AIW card. Nice optional extras,
but these extra features add a whole lot of potential hardware
complications for not a lot of money. And at the end of the day you get
what you pay for.

Well, my X800SE rocks! And this is a budget card. It came with the PC I
bought and I am perfectly happy.

My previous PC had an ATI Radeon 7200 and I was always happy, even though it
quickly ran out of breath when I tried to play 3D games, but then I did not
buy it with games in mind at that time.

Now I do pay attention and the X800SE does not let me down.

But if you're unhappy then why don't you try to get a refund?

sh.t man, my 9800xt has been the best purchase ever in all categories of
commercial goods.
not a problem anywhere, have had it running with all drivers from 4.4 to
4.8, omegas equivalent also (test different drivers based on performance NOT
instability). Not a damn problem... not to mention i run dual monitors, and
the occasional Tv out.. its overclocked and quite aggresevely, and it does
a sh.t load of work in gaming, and runs taxing games like farcry and doom3
on maximum details. this card till not so long ago, was the best gaming card
in the world, so dont go talking sh.t and think that a little complain like
urs is going to change a world of happy Ati owners, ur facts are based on
your expirience, which could well mean that youve made some mistakes
somewhere, bad configuration, or something. Yes its possible that u have a
bad card, but theres millions who have the same card who would quite
disagree with your FACTS.

dude ive got sense and alot of it, maybe ur missing some sense in whats
required to keep a stable system.

i heard of a myth, that theres people out there that dont know what their
doing?? could this be true about you??

I agree with the above. My 9800XT was bought as a replacement for a NVidia
TI4600 and it rox.
Mike245 - 29 Aug 2004 16:13 GMT
No problems with the 9800 PRO. The bang for your buck on the 9800 series
is pretty nice.  In fact the ATI drivers do something my nvidia card
couldn't do: output both VGA and S-Video at the same time.

Most "ati driver problems" in regards to gaming can usually be traced to
bad/old sound drivers, in my experience.  Gamers have to understand that
sound drivers are of incredible importance as modern games are sound
resource heavy and sound problems will crash a game, thus making a lot
of people assume it was the video sub-system.

Gee, I dont know what to add. I mean, you post with the name "ATI
sucks." Not exactly being impartial here.  Anyway, whatever works for you.

Why don't you ask for help in alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati  unless this
is simply a troll posting.

I'm not an ATI fan either, but as long as you state your *opinions* as facts
you're gonna get flamed.
