I have just left my little tour of Hell and now I'm back at the
station.  I am directed to destroy the hellgate but I seem to be
stuck.  There is a crawlspace in the floor right when I get back from
Hell, but that leads to more dead ends.
I found my way back to the destroyed bridge, that's about it.  What
am I supposed to do at this point?

Go to the end of the long hallway where those cute little ticks come out
from...there a busted elevator with a ladder off to the right hand side
of the elevator shaft....it's kind of hard to see.
I hate those flying babies.

"it's kind of hard to see"   sounds like everything else in doom

Hey, thanks for the info.  I got it and I also finally finished the
game.  I would say the game is exhausting, mostly because of the
detail in the environment, how dark it is, and the atmosphere in
general.  It was very difficult, even on the "easy" level.  But now
that it's over the Nightmare difficulty is unlocked and I can get
insane with that.
 Thanks again for your help.

Wish you the best of luck on nightmare.  Talk about exhausting.

I just started a New Game in nightmare mode...it's actually a lot of
fun, the only thing I think is ghey is how yer health drops. I'd rather
have tought monsters and more of them than lose health for no reason.
I hate those head spiders
