I would be interested to know where the Doom2 monster sounds
originated from. For example, the growling from demons and spectres.
Thanks

Rumour has it the imps were recordings of camels!

Doom 2, last level, the sound you hear when the monster-spawning cubes come
out of the giant deman face:  where does that come from? I've heard it in
other games, films, TV shows, etc.

I'd presume some of them came from generic sound effects CDs or tapes or
whatever. But there are several persistent rumors that various sounds were
recorded at a zoo or some other place with a lot of wildlife.

most sounds in movies and video games are usually taken from wildanimals, zoos,
CDs, etc. For example the IMPS' grunt sound, could of been a tiger yawning, and
then had it's pitch lowered a few deciples. It's very common.

I guess the other sounds like doors, and teleporting can be from any source,
just manipulated to sound different from the original source. It's fairly easy
to do these days.

I think the door whine sound came from a 1985 James Bond movie.

I always found it amusing that one of the monster growls in Duke
Nukem 3D is exactly the same as one in Hexen (the one that goes
arrrummmmmmmmmmm :)
