Keymapping question

I want the left arrow to straft left and the right arrow to straft right...
but I cant seem to find where to change those settings in Doom3. I only see
how you can set one key to straft and then have to move the mouse left and
right which is tedious at best.

Where it says "move left" or "move right", it means strafe left and strafe
right

It's called step left and step right in the menu.

It doesn't work! Not on my system anyway. It comes preconfigured as R
arrow = TURN right, L arrow = TURN L

When I try to set it to strafe R and Strafe L, it responds to my press
of the arrow keys with "SHIFT" instead of "Left" and "Right".

Maybe a bug specific to certain keyboards perhaps, but whatever the
case, it seriously sucks!

I've had to resort to using the numeric keypad - at least it configures
correctly.

same here, I had always used the l/r arrows to strafe, and all I get is
SHIFT in the menu, I have bound in an autoexec.cfg file in the base folder
of the mod I loaded (if you run a modded game you use that folder instead of
the games base folder)
bind "LEFTARROW" "_moveLeft"
bind "RIGHTARROW" "_moveRight"
