Doomworld.com was the last operational Doom hub, but I haven't checked in a
while. I would imagine that they are currently more interested in Doom 3,
but they've probably got lots of archived info about Doom1/2.

One good review site is ->
http://www.cph.demon.co.uk/doom/du/
The ones not to miss for the world are (first and foremost):
Memento Mori
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=4855
Memento Mori II
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=6562
Hell Revealed
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=7947
Requiem
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=8194
Alien Vendetta
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11790
These are all classic 32-level (complete) replacements --megaWAD:s.
Other than these there are numerous worth-while single map WAD:s and
megaWAD:s, but keep yourself busy with these 5 for a while.
After you've finished those 5, move on to ->
Icarus (http://www.teamtnt.com/ixic.htm)
Eternal DooM (http://www.teamtnt.com/ixet.htm)
The Darkening (http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=9907)
Darkening 2 (http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=10782)
These were all made with the original DooM engine in mind so they
should work with doomGL.

I've been playing lots of JDoom latley so I'll have to check some of
these out myself. I did play Eternal Doom though, maybe I just wasn't
running it right but at least one level (28 or 29) wouldn't load at all
and the rest of them had missing or the wrong textures in the wrong
places. Otherwise it wasn't bad.

Hmm, I din't much care for the Memento Mori series of Doom wads for all the
fuss they generated. I'm more of a "Fistfull" (the western theme conversion
for Doom 2) type of guy. :-/

I didn't like them at first either, but they grew on me. The same
goes for Hell Revealed.
Requiem and Alien Vendetta, though, was an instant hit with me.

Is this the the same story as Doom 2 but the scenes are backwards?

I found this site to be pretty useful:
http://www.geocities.com/timessquare/8666/doom.html
Has links to a lot of different Doom and Doom II WADs, including rankings.

The site is made by John "Gestalt666" Bye, a very talented WAD
author and one of the co-authors of "The Darkening". His work is
highly recommended.

I'm not surprised to see that my site is forgotten in this thread, although
couple years ago it was one of the most often mentioned DooM add-on review
pages...
The last update is from year 2002 so people propably don't even visit the
site that much... However there is well over 300 reviews of add-on's.
And some good news: I'm back with good internet connection and planning to
start updating again - if/when I get my access information from
doomworld.com staff :)

Yes, I noticed that later and was just about to post it, but you did it
first :) I'm now waiting for my access information - it may take couple
days according to doomworld staff... I already have three new reviews on my
page waiting to be uploaded :)
