Then I'd like to speak with you. I am a newspaper reporter writing a story about the release of Doom 3. I am interested in speaking with people in the New York area, especially in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam, about their plans to play Doom 3. Please send me an e-mail or give me a call. I cannot believe that a tech reporter worth their salt would post what amounts to spam, in order to write a story. Something just does not ring true bout this. And if it is legit then it seems to be a poor way to contact gamers. I mean she could easily have hooked up with a gamer magazine or such and gotten a much better response and cross section. Now whether she actually posted this is up for debate and I have not read any articles by her lately on The Journal. Well, you saw it! In response to other questions: We newspaper reporters try a wide variety of means to find people for stories, but taking out an ad in a magazine is usually not one of them. We work a lot closer to deadline and magazines are published weeks if not months ahead of time. Finding people to talk about everyday or common issues is easy. Just walk out the door and you'll find sources with plenty of opinions on the war in Iraq, for example. But diehard Doom fans aren't as easy to find, so I'm trying a variety of angles to hunt them down. So, if any of you have friends who live in New York who are looking forward to Doom 3, let them know that I'm looking for them.
