Then I'd like to speak with you.

I am a newspaper reporter writing a story about the release of Doom 3.
I am interested in speaking with people in the New York area,
especially in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam, about their plans to
play Doom 3.

Please send me an e-mail or give me a call.

Julie

There is *no* way a reporter would bag interviewees by advertising on as
inactive a NG as this...

I cannot believe that a tech reporter worth their salt would post what
amounts to spam, in order to write a story. Something just does not ring
true bout this. And if it is legit then it seems to be a poor way to contact
gamers. I mean she could easily have hooked up with a gamer magazine or such
and gotten a much better response and cross section. Just seems to be not
what it would first appear to be.

It is The Journal News for chrissake.  The pride of Westchester
County.  Not exactly the NY Times, or even The Post...

I'm sure she just needs your credit card number to prove you are old enough to
be buying the game :-)

Perhaps a junior high school journalist :) "LOL"
JJO - 27 Jul 2004 13:53 GMT
Actually I checked out the reporter and she does indeed write for The
Journal. Now whether she actually posted this is up for debate and I have
not read any articles by her lately on The Journal.

John O.

Hi all,

Yes, I am a newspaper reporter, and for all of you saying: "Why would
she post on such an inactive board?" ... Well, you saw it!

In response to other questions:
We newspaper reporters try a wide variety of means to find people for
stories, but taking out an ad in a magazine is usually not one of
them. We work a lot closer to deadline and magazines are published
weeks if not months ahead of time.

Finding people to talk about everyday or common issues is easy. Just
walk out the door and you'll find sources with plenty of opinions on
the war in Iraq, for example. But diehard Doom fans aren't as easy to
find, so I'm trying a variety of angles to hunt them down.

So, if any of you have friends who live in New York who are looking
forward to Doom 3, let them know that I'm looking for them.

And here is a link to a recent story I've done:

And I stand corrected. My apologies and I would say that the obvious direct
approach sometimes seems to be the least believable to most of us...well to
myself anyways. Good luck with the research for your story.

That would be me :D

Yes, we did, granted.
I'm just too cynical for the web m'dear.
What alerted you to Usenet?

If I was in the USA, in NY, I'd help you out. Doom is a slight obsession for
me.

Unfortunately I have no Doom 3 obsessive friends in NY.

You seem legit, up to a point. I retract my skepticism.
