Could someone maybe post the specs hear so all thousands of us don't
have it hit these websites?  It'd be appreciated.

I have a Radion 9700Pro with 2.4g  P4 & 512 DDR.
Will that be enough to run Doom III?

Thanks in anticipation

No, you need a Dareon 42000XPert P7 & 3.14 gigo RAM.
That's the strict minimum with all options off and 320×200 8 bits.

Damn, we are still far away from the "octium" required game
"prediction" that i made in some forum back in 1997 :)

Depends on how you look at it.  Intel isn't selling a processor called
the Octium, but we've got to be a couple of x86 generations ahead.
Any processor expert got an idea of what x86 generation we'd be in if
Intel had chosen to continue with that nomenclature?

Would the slot procesors have been the 686s, with the return to socket
786?  And 64bit processors would be 886?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all >=Penitum processors 64 bit
internaly with 32 bit external bus? Aren't the new "64 bit" pocessors
64 internal/64 external?

I don't see any game requiring this in the new future, unless maybe
we start seeing 3d accelerators with a 64 bit bus interface.

Hey guy, it's not hard to find this info on the web, just search a
little in the many doom community web sites. If you can't search it by
yourself... damn you won't survive 2 seconds in Doom 3.

I am an adult, and you, sir, are a whining showoff.  Clearly your computer
is adequate for the task.
Now piss off and go play outside for a while.

Listen Matt, you silly little boy. Unlike most sad first-person shooter
geeks, I do have a life outside doom. (I of course mean no disrespect to
Doom) However, I cannot see what is wrong in asking a newsgroup dedicated to
this subject to see if my spec is adequate. Yes I could find the spec with a
bit of surfing but I made the Fatal! mistake by thinking that there might be
helpful people in this group. Clearly I over-estimated the fuckwitt element
here because I had only 2  sensible answers (thanks for them guys)

Next time I take leave of my senses and decide to gather info from this
primary group, I will act like a spotty, ginger, goofy virgin who has never
seen a real woman before so I blend in nicely with the geek element here so
I might get the desired info.

Nothing wrong at all, except that the original poster in this exact thread
had already posted essentially the same question, and received two responses
with links to the recommended spec.

Helpful answers had already been posted by the time you made your post.
I know that article propagation sometimes takes a while, and so they might
not have been visible on your news server at the time, but I can't see how
you thought it made sense to follow up to someone's post to ask the same
question again.

My, how mature you are.

To sum up: you posted a stupid question and got one humorous response and
two helpful ones. Usenet being the rather... umm... rambunctious place that
it is, I think you were doing pretty well, at least until you started
whinging about someone daring to make a joke.
