Um, Wal Mart perhaps? (I got the Collectors Edition there not too long
ago).  If you do decide to get it and figure out how to get the mouse
support working in it, get back to us here, m'kay?

Use JDoom to make the mouse work, it also gives you open GL graphics if
you have a compliant video card. http://www.doomsdayhq.com/. I had the
same problem with the collectors package as well (no mouse). Hope this
helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, Josh.  Unfortunately, the only time I tried
it, JDoom screwed up my sound settings horribly (under Win XP).

Hmmm I use it with xp pro and it works great, but I guess any windows OS
is prone to work a little different from machine to machine. I tried
some other ports on the same day I settled on JDoom, but Jdoom is the
only one that worked, and or I could figure out. I know how you feel,
I'm a doomer from way back and I was upset when the new disks I bought
didn't support the mouse. Maybe someone else here has a solution.

Then enter a bug report on that here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/deng/
(and MAKE sure you give detail: sound card, drivers, version of XP,Service
Packs etc).

How can it improve if  no one submits bug reports?

As a programmer, I have been very impressed by SkyJake and the collection of
people working on the Doomsday engine and tools. SkyJake is _very_
reponsive. I have submitted about 8 bugs and all have been attended to and
looked it. One of them was not Doomsday but a bug in GLBSP, the node
builder.

JDoom, JHeretic, JHexen is one of the most impressive ports arounds. And if
you find bugs, do submit something, it will be corrected. SkyJake would like
to know.

I know what the problem is though.  It's a shitty Sony VAIO computer
that has some kind of funky integrated sound card in it that most
software programs choke on.  It's not the program this time, just the
lousy hardware.

I already checked the local Wal*Mart. Thanks anyway.

Have you tried useing it with the chex quest engine? You can get that
from Home of the Underdogs. I CAN us my mouse in that, and it should
work, since CQ is just a non-violant doom TC. That was one of the few
good games ever glued to the inside of a cireal box.

Any other sugestions?

Thanks to all who replied or will do so,

The DooM Collectors edition (Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom) is
for sale at Wal-Mart for $10.

You can find doom95 just about anywhere (here:
http://www.avault.com/pcrl/demo_temp.asp?game=doom95 for example).
