My 2 cents on Doom the movie

Just rented the DVD.  I have to say it was better than I expected,
given that they removed Hell from the equation.  I also think they
included some important little details that made it seem familiar to
the players.
However, removing the Hell part was a mistake.  I mean, how can you
make a Doom movie and not have a Cyberdemon?  Sheesh!  By removing Hell
from the story they almost automatically sacrificed what made the game
interesting in the first place.  How about walls of flesh and mutilated
blood red skies morphing with bone and other biological material???
That's what I recall from the later Doom Il/Final Doom levels and that
sort of ambiance makes all the difference in the world.
I say we give Spielberg or Cameron or Mann $100 million and get it
right.  It could have been so much more. . .
As for the acting, eveybody did a great job and the Rock gave a
really good glare in the medical lab!  I also liked it when he said
"Semper Fi, mother f.cker!"
Ladies and gentlemen, those are my two cents.

Unfortunately, it was a Doom 3 movie, rather than a Doom movie.  The few
inside jokes were cute for about three seconds (Dr. Carmack, Dr Willits, and
the BFG), and there was some footage near the end that duplicated the first
person view from the game, but overall, it was not very satisfying.  The
only charcters you got to feel for were the brother and sister.  The rest
were throwaways, even The Rock.     A rental of Alien or Aliens would have
been much more enjoyable.

my $.015
