No, it won't be fun. Perhaps you missed out on the original doom betas. In those versions, the only thing you could do is poke your bayonet at random monsters that disintegrate instantly. It is a tech demo, not a game. The same applies to the beta version of Doom - it is a tech demo, not a game. If you want to have fun with betas, then look for things like the UT2003/2004 demos. I enjoyed the graphics and preview of how scary it will be using the alpha. Oh, NOW I see how it is. YOU get to play it, but the rest of us.... FORGET IT! Tryin to keep all the fun to yourself, huh?
