Doom 3 crashes on loading a savegame

What the subject says <g> It bombs back to the desktop with a 'malloc
failure for 1048629' error message.

System specs:
Sempron 3300+
1Gb RAM
NVidia Geforce 6200 w/Forceware 81.98 (IIRC)
WinXP w/SP1 (SP2 caused problems last time I tried it)
DirectX 9.0c

Any ideas? This is what the console shows:

have you tried getting rid of your autoexec.cfg file?:

Aha. It's just the most recent one. Sadly, it's nearly an entire level after
the previous save, which is annoying. <g>
