Mouse issues: XP w. Final Doom

I downloaded one of my alltime favorite games-Final Doom, from ID. Software.
System requirements indicated that it would work with Win 2000. I felt it
was worth a try under my current OS, XP-Pro. Graphics and sound work great
but i cannot get my USB mouse to be recognized by the game at all. Can
anyone in this newsgroup help me on this?
