Doom II can be found somewhere at EBGames or other local game stores.
The jewelcase version should only cost $10.

Heretic and Hexen is harder to find, you'll have to order direct from
ID software as a download.  However, you might just get lucky looking
at second-hand games.

Heretic 2 and Hexen 2 use the Quake series of engine, which do not use
WAD files.  However, these games can still be found in jewelcase
format somewhere at your local game store.

If you just want to play Doom 2 add on wads, and don't mind missing/different
sprites and textures, try http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/

It's still a work in progress, but the last time I tried it (mid-2003),
it was a fully functional IWAD, but incomplete. Many of the enemies
were "sprite not done" sign sprites :)

What a mess:

You know, I found a copy of D2 on eBay just last year for a paltry $3, and
it's served me well ever since.  I suggest that you search there.

Piracy is illegal. Period.

Actually it's not that clear. I don't know much about other countrys and
their laws, but here in Finland copying music, videos, software, etc. for
your own personal non-profit use is perfectly legal - however sharing
music, videos or software for others is not legal. So it would be legal for
me to download - for example - doom2.wad from a friend but my friend would
be doing a crime when giving it to me :o

This however allows perfectly free copying of music, videos and software
from library (they have some games too).

Just wanted to make this clear as most people believe that copying software
for personal use is a crime. I personally have bought DooM (and some other
games) although most of my games are pirated or free to download.
