I'm having great fun with my PJ/PJ/LF Javazon in the first two acts of hell.
The staff and the amulet are collected but not assembled. It'll be
interesting to see if Duriel's chamber will open for me or not.
Non lightning immunes fall quickly to their death to my maxed out LF, the
rest get to live a wee bit longer. To help the green monsters die a little
bit quicker I have invested one point in Jab. With +3 to Amazon skills it's
up to level 4. The damage and attack rating are not that impressive.
She is currently using this lovely javelin:

With 14 skill points saved up I'm looking to replace my low level Jab with
something else. My pre-patch Javazon used Fend to great effect, but I'm not
sure if it's still the Javazon melee skill of choice.
On paper Impale looks impressive, but I have never used it myself. Fend on
the other hand is uninterruptible and you get a bunch of extra hits. I'm not
looking to take down huge mobs with my melee skill. It'll mostly be used to
finish off single targets or small lightning immune groups.
I should probably mention that I don't have the resists to use a two-hander
on switch.

Some people say that Jab works better with single Targets than Fend does,
but I can't verify that. It seems to me that the damage bonus for Fend
would outweigh the supposed superior speed of Jab, but that's just me.
I can say a lot of the people I've talked to get by with 1 point in either
one and do OK.
short - I liked my Fendazon though, and she generally used her Javs and
Shield rather than a 2 hander

I thought so too.

I'll put a point in Impale and Fend and compare them to Jab.

My 1.09 Javazon was virtually unkillable in the cow level, even when
surrounded. Max blocking, high passives, decent life leech and Fend kept her
red ball filled until she could toss a few Lightning Furies.

Impale has impressive damage, but it is so very sloooooooooow, no matter
what. At least it used to be, anyway.

Yuppers, that is how mine worked too :o)

I did the same, but added a weapon with crushing blow to make it worth
it to jab at all. However, if I never used jab in hell it was worth the
one point because up until the end of NM I could kill things pretty fast.
Two easy mods for weapons if your physical damage is not that high:
1) strength runeword (amn tir) has crushing blow
2) malice runeword (ith el eth) has prevent monster heal - nice when
things are BOTH light and poison immune (and they're coming)

That's nice for fury, but I'd look into one with +3 to jav skills for
plague jav, since mostly all your damage is from the skill, not the jav.
By the time both plague and poison were maxed even one more skill point
was adding over 100 damage per sec.

I tried one point in impale, and I never hit anything with it. Luckily
my merc and valk made a good team and were adding significantly to the
killing.

I eventually gave up the spear and went with a good plague jav on one
weapon and a good fury jav on the other (the fury jav was the unique
wraith flight - high damage ethereal with +15 mana per kill and life
leech), and a good shield in both slots. I just got to a point where it
was too dangerous to not use a shield even for a minute.

I've decided to go with Fend after all. The AR is that much better. If I
find a nice two-hander for her I might stick that on switch, even though her
resist will suffer without the shield.

Willowisps and their cousins if I'm not mistaking, and they are virtually
physically immune as well.

I'll only replace that javelin if I can find one with high physical damage
and +X to javelin skills. The leach I get is enough to toss LF and PJ all
day long. Also the life leech truly is a life saver in hell. However I am
contemplating using Trang-Oul's heavy bracers for the +25% poison skill
damage. Only the damage goes up with them, not the duration.

Sounds like a good plan, I'll keep it in mind when things get a bit tough
for her. :-)

I'm not familiar with Trang's and didn't know about the + to poison
damage. Sounds great if you can get it.
Of all the set items I've found in 1.10 including the beta I don't think
I ever found a Trang's anything. Must all be in an unusual TC or
something.

Trang-Oul's gear is some of the best you can find. I like how, when you
equip all of it, you turn into a vampire lord.
