Has anyone else had trouble with games not saving? I'm seeing this
issue with a couple of characters: I open a character, play with it,
then save and exit. (As you do).

When I subsequently consult the character page, the character I have
just played is not the most recent. (In 1.10 they are listed by date
instead of by name, with 'most recently played' in the top slot).

When I load the character, it's as if I had never played with it the
time before - any experience, items I might have accumulated are not
there, any items I might have sold or dropped are still there. It
appears that the character is just not being saved.

This is confirmed by looking at the modification date of the save game
file. I've tried running D2 in a Window and sure enough, the d2s file
is not getting rewritten.

As you can imagine, this is VERY annoying, especially if I give some
good gear to one of these characters in a multiplayer game, and then it
just disappears because the character is not saved.

This doesn't always happen, but it's happened with two seperate
characters now, always when running local TCP/IP games. I *think*
another indicator is that the problem only occurs with 'client'
characters, but my host machine is not running the same OS, so that
might also be significant.

Quitting D2 and restarting it seems to fix the problem. (At least it
did just now).

This is 1.10 under Mac OS X.

Is the character file, perhaps flagged as read-only? I know I have had that
some times.

Just a thought.

One would think that would raise an error condition within the program
itself. Then again, this is Blizzard's monkeys, so who knows.

In the error file that diablo 2 creates when you run it, if you play a char that's
read-only, it will say something about not being able to open the character file.  But
that's the only thing it does.
