The adventures of a UT smiter (and his mate)

And so it came to pass, that after much quarreling (tradeing), much
repetition (leveling) and much thought (highly unusual), once again i was
ready to attempt the beast that is UT.

On my own this time (where are you!?!), i took my originally named
TheUberSmiter (clvl 77) and equipped him with what i had. Guillamines
helm(Pdiamonded), Seraphs hymn(2/2), Duriels shell, Dracs, Black runeworded
knout, 40 base res sacred targe(4x Pdiamonded), Nos' coil and Gorerider
boots. Items in the inventory didn't help much... a 13/13 anni, 14 RA GC and
a few ~20 life LCs. I think his merc is about lvl 6 hehehe... she stayed
dead :P
TUS' skills are maxed smite, maxed salvation, maxed holy shield and maxed
fana.

First up in the lessers lineup, Duriel. This was also the first inkling of
the disaster that was to come. Wimpy old Duriel, the lesser we used to
chuckle at, was continuously hitting TUS for 2/3 to 3/4 of his lifeball.
Fortunantly, lifetap went off early and it wasn't long before Duriel was
eating the forgotten sand (i believe he forgot how awful it was).

Much thought was embarked apon before faceing Izual. It was decided that,
with the realms being as stable as they are (lmao), Hammerdin would be
bought in to tele to Izzy, and then TUS would smite him down.... we'd clean
up the minions later! Well, after Hammerdin died 4 times, i enlisted the aid
of my 7 yo son to throw hammers and add concentration, while TUS smited and
fanatacized(haha, work that one out!)  proceedings. Many deaths followed,
much curseing (not lifetap worse luck) but we did get him..... lifetap
refused to trigger _at all_ during the battle... many, many purples where
consumed.

Last up, my personal favourite, Andarial.... actually, she went down
reasonably easy. Gulped a few poison pots, Hammerdin tele'd to her and threw
a tp around the corner, TUS came in, lifetap went off on the second blow,
and the rest was history, even though the young fella complained when Andy
one hitted him through the wall :)

I had no intention of selling a organset, i think the current market price
of ist is rather undervalued. Checking the stability of the game, i opened a
beer, and proceeded to open the portal to UT.

Now, i have no idea what my stacked resistances are, but I drew Meph first,
and that sucker was one hitting me every 3 minutes. Half the time, there
wasn't even a chance to guzzle a purple, netherless my beer :(  Must of
taken 8 or so deaths before the ugly bugger fell over. Of course, once Mephs
conviction is done away with, Baal and Diablo are relatively easy and it
wasn't long before they spat up 2 SoH and a Unique LC.....

Now, to sell the unid LC, or ID it? First run, much struggleing, much death,
much anticipation ... Yep id it! Want to guess what it was?

10/10 Druid.

Ever seen a grown man weep over a game?
Not pretty!

Err, why on earth do you have a p diamond in your Guillames? It only adds
res in shield, in helm it adds all of 100 attack rating, absolutely
worthless with smite since it's ITD. Um or res jewel that sucker, or hell,
if those not availble throw in a shael(30 FHR on Guillames+20 on Shael hits
the 48 FHR breakpoint) or a p ruby for an extra 38 life.

Why not hire a new merc? You don't gotta level em now, so whatever you hired
would be within 5 levels of you...

Huh, that's odd.

In my experience, to get tap to trigger you're better off zealing, then
smite once it's triggered.

> Now, i have no idea what my stacked resistances are

Based on my math, your shield adds 116, 13 from anni, 14 from gc, 20 all and
an extra 30 cold from armor, plus I assume 30 from Anya. That makes...193,
and 223 cold. If you were smiting with Salvation on, that's another 110 or
so. So, assuming you were fighting with Salv on, you had res of 303/333.
With -100 from hell penalty and -125 at least from conviction(dunno if Meph
has higher than lvl 20 conviction or not) that puts your res at max, and I
wouldn't think he would have hurt you that much unless your life was really
low. Although if you had fana on and not salv, your res woulda been way in
the red, which would explain the 1 hit KOs.

Let's put pdiamonding the Guillaume's down to a brain fart ;)
Countess dropped me a um today on a key run, the only RA jewel i've found so
far is a decent lld thing (i think) so i'll hell/um the helm before the next
run. Cheers!

I've found that no merc i've had lasted more than 10 seconds in UT. Maybe a
Rogue with a faith bow would work, or one of the Iron Wolf mob, but i can't
really see the benefit of haveing one more life bulb to worry about :)

Aye, most unusual. Especially considering there isn't all that much
difference in my equipment from last ladder. Duress, Grief, Highlords and a
rare elite shield, coupled with a inventory full of +res/life charms... the
charms are my main focus ATM.

I've read this before. I suppose the quicker strikes would make LT trigger
quicker, someything to consider before the next outing.

Salv was running when drawing Meph out first, and then switched to fana.
Corpse runs where not a option after he killed me, so _if_ they haven't
fixed the res bug, that shouldn't of affected it either. As i said earlier,
i think alot has to do with missing life/res charms.

My act 2 mercs do okay usually, they have problems around Meph, and if they
get distracted by one of Baal's PI minions it usually kills em though(I
don't bother worring about their life bulb, I just let em live as long as
they can then so be it)

Hmm, so no DR then either...and I assume you still have max block now, kinda
weird.

> I've read this before. I suppose the quicker strikes would make LT trigger

Aye, it helps. Sure, your zeals may not hit the main baddie much, but you'll
be hitting the minions around him plenty of times, which means many chances
to trigger.

> Salv was running when drawing Meph out first,  and then switched to fana.

Switched to fana while fightning Meph or after he was dead? If while alive,
then yeah, your res woulda been in the red pretty harshly, which would
explain the 1 hit KOs.

Aye, more res charms are good, can fight meph with Fana on and still be
maxed out.

If you have problems increasing your res with charms, do keep in mind the
main elemental damage Uber-Mephisto throws out is lightning: so
concentrate on increasing that before the rest.

Aye, lightning damage.. I had some luck mfing last night and had a 5%fhr/11%
LR sc fall, so that and other lightning res charms will make their way to
the smiters inventory. I'm also considering tradeing for a SoE, i think (as
Shiftlet said earlier in the thread) that he's really lacking damage
reduction.... he has none at the moment :(

No idea what you're planning to spend on this trade, but I personally find
'Verdungo's Hearty Cord' a better belt for a Smiter.

I bought mine (quite mediocre, but still better than any SoE IMHO) for a
handful of pgems (6 - 8 approximately).

Patrick.

Wow, damn dude. On West NL, even the WORST possible Dungos is still worth an

What Shiftlet said.
That's some nice trade you got there Patrick, compared to uswscl prices.

This was/is from a 'pgem-shop' on SC Europe Ladder, someone advertisting
in the B.Net forum. I also bought an Arm of King Leoric there for 5 pgems.
Various other equipment also for 3-6 pgems, max.

I rather like the 'atmosphere' in the new ladder, especially on SC Europe
Ladder.

Patrick.

I'm likeing the scarcity of HRs myself. I'm expecting this to change within
the next 4-6 weeks though :\
Gems at the moment on uswscl are valued at pul per 40, standard,
non-dupefest price. I'm holding onto mine for now, waiting until i get a
char to 93 for crafting purposes, and waiting until the inevitable rune dump
for tradeing off the rest.
Unfortunantly, the player attitudes haven't changed much this season, thus
why i mostly play private/passworded games. And lets not talk about tradeing
ingame, this is a public forum ;)

Cheers

As most of the damage he'll be taking from U Meph is elemental, particulary
lightning, and you said that the other U brothers were comparatively easy I
would have thought a T'gods might have been better. (It's what my
Freezealot's wearing right now as it's the only decent belt I've found):

Thundergod's Vigor
War Belt

Defense: 137-159 (varies)(Base Defense: 41-52)
Required Level: 47
Required Strength: 110
Durability: 24
16 Boxes
+160-200% Enhanced Defense (varies)
Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
5% Chance To Cast Level 7 Fist Of The Heavens When Struck
+20 Lightning Absorb
10% To Maximum Lightning Resist
+20 To Strength
+20 To Vitality
+3 To Lightning Fury (Amazon Only)
+3 To Lightning Strike (Amazon Only)

Normally I equip my Freezers with Vedungo's. This'll do until I find (a
good) one. Strikes me as a good UT runners belt.

Cheers,

Tgods would be nice, if i could get one to drop! Not a one yet, nor a SoE, i
was actually commenting to the wife (bless her) that the drops seem worse
this season, meaning they seem fewer and further between. About the only
thing that still drops the same IME is keys, junk jewels and cracked sashs
;)
Luckily, Tgods isn't that "in demand" i think, so if i use a SoE against
duriel (and Izzy?) and then swap it out for a Tgods against uberMeph, that
should go some way to keeping the smiter alive... well, here's hopeing
anyway.

Most damage in UT is ele, not physical. The DR would help with Duriel(and in
that regards I'd rather trade for Verdungos), but for Trist I'd rather have
TGods.

Shiflet is bang-on with this one. After doing literally hundreds and
hundreds of UT runs you tend to learn tricks like that.

Ouch! It couldn't be any worse! You have my sympathies. Still, on the bright

I'm thinking someone will cough up a pgem for that torch, unless i can
sucker someone into thinking it's a collectors item, then i might get 2!!
;P

Actually, this is 'The Anti Druid Torch' and while you think you're joking
about the 'collectors item' status of it, I've seen Torches like these
trade for quite a bit more than a random 11-15/11-15 Torch of the same
type would fetch. :)

So you might wanna try that route before selling it for 1 or 2 pgems. ;)

Interesting. I have seen 10/10/5 annis go for a little more than i'd expect
(collectors status), but i wouldn't of thought the same thing with a doggy
torch. At the moment i'm useing the torch for the +resists on TUS, but when
my pally torch drops, i'm going to give that a try. Thanks Patrick.
