Hey kids,

I've been playing Hellfire (v1.01) for a wee while now, just for a change of
pace. :-)

The thing is, I only played Rogues and Melee when I used to play. Last night
I started my first Sorcerer as I was getting bored with the same ol' same
ol'. However, I have no clue what are the best attacks to use. I don't
suppose anyone knows of any "build" guides or similar still on the interweb
perchance?

Other than that, any advice? I'd be obliged. <g>

Thanks muchly,

There are no builds.  You just learn every spell you can.  To do so,
you need high int, so the gear you get should reflect that, though you
can have a 2nd set of gear just for learning the higher ranks of the
spells.  The spell I usually used was fireball.  chainlightning for
the fire immunes and teleport is ever so useful.  That's mostly it as
far as I can remember.  It's been many a year since I've played it.

Yeah, as far as I remember it was FB and CL. And when you go to town, fill
your entire inventory with mana potions, it seemed to work that as you used
the potions you'd pick up stuff and it seemed to stay at a nice balance. But
a Sorc needed a lot of mana.

I don't remember of any guides for D1, except for Jariff's guide.
and there are no builds in D1.  Just max every skill and keep
looking for equipment to enhance your build.  IIRC, my sorc
used FB as a main attack and what ever the ice one was for
the fire immunes.  And since you're playing Hellfire, I take it that
you're playing off-line.  So remember you can store stuff on
the ground when you quit.  And of course you can use the
Hell Stone(?) to move items from one char to another.
It's been years since I've played D1/Hellfire, but that's what
I remember.  Not bad for an old man.  <BG>

Yeah, I have Jarulf's. As you say, no builds.

Handy, thanks.

Aye.

Yup, handy that.

Cornerstone of the World. LOL, when I used to play, years ago, I didn't know
what that was for. It was only a week or two ago I read it in Jarulf's.

Not bad at all old feller. <EG>

I just gotta learn how to jump between spells (only four hot-keys?
F5-thru-8? Never needed more with bow or meelee) and similar. I don't think
I have the books that came with the game and expansion anymore (or more
likely I do and they're buried in the backroom) so I can't RTFM.

Still, I'm yet to fully explore the link Thomas gave me, could be gold there
from the looks of it. Had to say my thanks to all first. My momma didn't
raise no ungrateful bastards. <g>

And also don't forget that because a sorc is a mana build, that
Mana shield is your best friend.  And sorry, I don't remember
anything about setting up extra hot-keys, if you even can.

Ooh yes, Mana Shield.  Always gotta have that going.

And didn't Hellfire add some hot-keys?  Really not sure if I'm just
imagining things though.  I didn't play Hellfire much at all.

No, not that I can find out about anyway. Seems I'm still stuck with just
the four.

Yeah, I read that. sadly, twice the b.. err.. witch has had books for sale
but both times it was way more gold than I had. :-(

Seems I can't. I'll get used to it.

You only get to hotkey four spells, so I used to go with fireball, chain
ligbhtning (but be careful in multiplayer, as friendly fire is a big
problem), and teleport for three of them , then usually turn to stone
(can't remember exact spell name), but it would depend on what level I
was on, as sometimes holy bolt was a better choice, and usually firewall
to do in the big red cheese from around a corner at the end.

Avoid that random tele spell like the plague--it was suicide. Watch out
for the yellow zombies that permanently lower maximum life.

Get a Civerb's truncheon for dealing with triple immunes in hell
difficulty.

That's most of what I remember. I still sometimes play this on
battle.net, where I am still -Tymme-.

While I'll admit that anyone can make a mistake once, to go on making
the same lethal errors century after century seems to me nothing short
of deliberate.--V.

Thanks. I've read the link that Thomas posted yesterday and learned heaps.

Black Death's. Oneof those bastards hit me last night. :-(

Cool.

I might try playing Diablo on battle net. That could be interesting. :-)
