Hi,

I'm hoping to find something used for about $100.

I've never had problems with nvidia chipsets, so maybe I'll stick with
them, and I'm seeing new and used 256mb nvidia 6600 series on Ebay for
less than a $100.  But who makes a good one?  I don't keep up on
hardware but I don't recognize the brands I'm seeing.

Thanks

Chaintech is a good brand. I've had a Chaintech 256Mb GeForce-based card
for a while now, and it works great. It's not the high end one, but it
was *well* under $100 new!
Here's a secret: check out http://www.pricewatch.com/ for prices...

AGP or PCIe?

Most newer video cards are just minor variations of the chipset
manufacturer's reference design. Any one of the top half-dozen board
makers will do.

AGP and only 4x I believe.

Thanks!  I'll find something.

If/when you do finally get a nVidia card, don't forget to go to nvidia.com and
sownload the latest drivers

Sure, but if the game has a hard time with the latest driver, don't
hesitate to use an older one. My Windows install had a hell of a time with
some newer Nvidia driver releases, and so did some other peoples'. Old
game + new driver = trouble maybe.

66.93 works fine if you experience issues.

If this is to play D2LOD then you would be better off getting something
older, namely a voodoo 3 4 or 5 then you can play in glide mode which blows
away what anything can do in the other video modes.

I have a voodoo 3 on this machine, an ati 9200 AIW on my second machine and
an Nvidia geforce 4mx on the third machine, the game looks best on the
voodoo.

Before you buy be sure you have the right type of slot in your computer for
the card you are buying, an older computer will not have a pci-e slot, even
older computers will not have an agp or a very slow agp slot.

On that note... I'm having problems with my PC... it's super chunky.
Now D2 works well in a window and sucks in full screen.  Before I go
tearing into my machine, I'd like to rule out software failure.

I have an old Voodoo 3, 16MB card... this would really work better for
D2???

I'm all for better, but always had problems finding the ddrivers

Are you using a flat panel?

Yep. As long as your motherboard supports it (If it's AGP it'll be 1X or so,
not all later mobos are that backwards-compatible).

Shouldn't be impossible.
