Ye old bot, and the underlying server have now been updated. Yes, I
know you can't run bots on bnet anymore, but I have this habit of
ignoring such impediments. The server is now running 2x 512 PCIx cards
and has had it's HDDs upgraded from 18x 100GB to 18x 500GB. Heaven only
knows what crap the kids will stick on there now, but I needed the
extra storage for DvD images as we run our own viedo on demand around
here.

Damn! You have 9 terrabytes of storage? That would be handy.

My video server is stuck at 12 x 400GB. I need to get a rack into the
closet so I start putting NAS chassis in there. (Storage is the easy
part. Backing it up is a bitch.)

Type 5 raid, no backups needed :)

I use RAID on everything, but I've blown raid controllers before, losing
all of the drives with it (enterprise-level gear, too). Once bitten,
twice shy. I've also had two server rooms take direct hits during
lightning storms (goodbye whatever was on that circuit). RAID protects
against random failures of individual drives, but doesn't provide for
backups when the server decides to eat the entire array. I've become a
bit paranoid about keeping a second copy of the non-DVD stuff off-site
(replacing the pr0n alone would take years!). Fortunately, stuffing a
500GB drive in a cheap NAS housing is somewhat affordable now.

Back up the raid controller :)

IBM took them back. There are rack mounted drives to begin with, so I
don't think they fit elsewhere, plus the are FW SCSI drives.

puts the 80 gig in my Xbox to shame.

Geez, I only have 2 40GB drives in my PC!

9TB!

12.5 of my drives per 1 of Mickey's...

18 of Mickey's drives...

I need a calculator... that's a lot of 40GB drives.

wow... 225

Hey, what are you doing with those old cheap 100GB drives?

Reg (who can't fathom 'using' that much space, but sure would like to
try)
