Alan Ladd - 20 Feb 2006 09:17 GMT Well... it's the same old story of how bnet screwed another player. Short version is that after playing countless hours, I managed to collect all the keys needed to go to UberTristram in my own non ladder world.
With an assortment of characters, I managed to collect the Horn and Eye quite easily. Furnace of Pain was indeed a pain. After many many maaaaaaaaaany deaths, I managed to kill Uber Izual.
I bet you can see where this is going. Created Uber Trist portal in the same game thinking it is very stable after having played in the same game for at least an hour. Portal opens up... I get the Smiter ready. First time ever to enter UT. Hmmm what is this? A blackwall? NOOOooooooooooooooooooooo. YCHBI. FTJG. Game does not exist. *sigh*

Ashen Shugar - 20 Feb 2006 09:45 GMT I think it was Alan Ladd <OnlyALadd68@SPAMyahoo.com> that wrote something like...

And the game didn't role back and leave you with the body parts still in your inventory/cube? Or had you exited the game with the character that had them before it lagged out?

I just logged back on today to see but none of the chars I used has any of the keys or the body parts. After every portal was cleared, I left the game and back just so it will save the fact that I had each body part. After making UT, I had to get my BO Barb to boost my Smiter's life. The BO Barb was the one who created the portal unfortunately.
I couldn't check right away yesterday because I was temp banned. Not that it really matters because I don't feel like playing Diablo much anymore. I just keep thinking of those many hours spent collecting those keys, levelling up chars specifically for the hunt, levellling the chars for the portals, etc.
All I wanted was to try UT at least once. It seemed within my reach. Oh well.... if all else fails, I can perhaps trade one of my uber spirits or insight for the keysets but that just won't be the same as having collected all of them :(

It's just that UT is one of those "quest items" in the game that is very attainable with the right planning and persistence. I already know that there is no way I can create any of the high powered runewords. I've never met UberDiablo therefore no Anni for me. Looking for him is more luck than anything. I've accepted the fact that I will never have a powerful char with all the uber items.
UT on the other hand gave me hope. It levelled the playing field so to speak. It is much like the runewords Spirit and Insight... godly yet attainable with enough patience.
Oh well. I'm sure I will pick myself up eventually and start playing again. Who knows, I might even start playing ladder again just so I can make a dozen more Insights and Spirits then hope for a reset :-)

Although I enjoy an occasional dose of "uber" myself, it's those "castoffs" that provide the most fun over the long haul. :-)

However, it'll be hard staying untwinked when I have mules full of stuff. Maybe I should do it on another realm? That would make sense I guess.

Awesome well you know my accts by now so if Chill gets stuck I can jump in and give a hand and when your ready to tackle hell we can run ubers. My smiter has survived one trip to tristram (pubbie) and I think the only reason he did was there was like 4 of us smiter, one necro and a bobarb. We had the necro spam lifetap and meph well lets just say he got his prom dress right wrinkled 8D

That would make sense I guess. There's little in the game to match the satisfaction of nursing a completely untwinked character all the way through Hell Baal. In fact, it's only after doing that that one *really* learns to appreciate just how great this game is, IMO.
Good luck if you try.
BTW, you might want to steer clear of a heavily equipment-dependent build, like a MA assy, and certain melee types if you're very very impatient, but beyond that, it's wide open, and uberness be damned! :-)

I don't know how I'll go or if my patience will hold out. :-)
Ping-times on East aren't very good for me though, +120ms on average from my 250-320ms pings on West.

That alone makes for an aggravating proposition. Maybe you just need to stick with West and practice your abstinence. :-)
Good luck.

I gave up smokes a couple years ago, I don't abuse my pain meds or any illegal drugs or alcohol these days. However, if I was struggling with a character using poor gear, dying all the time, when I had good stuff on mules available I'm not sure I'd be able to resist justifying an item, then another one.
Mind you, I guess that just makes it more interesting, two challenges in one. LOL, probably start smoking cigarettes again though.

Well sh.t son, get on the ladder and join us. It's not like we EVER have a shortage of keys or anything. Right now, for example, I am a tad low on keys and can only open the portal to UT about 5 times :)

The main reason that I play non-ladder now is that I really don't have much time to play anymore and I'd rather focus on builds than items. I have a fairly nice item collection going and that's all I really need I suppose.
Thanks for the offer though. If and when I do decide to play ladder again (if only to make tons of spirits and insights), I will certainly try to hook up with AGD games once again.

Orion Ryder - 21 Feb 2006 19:32 GMT Hey Alan tis I Orion from the long ago fabled untwinked team.
Damn we could have used that Smiter the other day (Saturday) when I went to UT with my wife. Ashens ended up joining us and the rest is history and a great adventure.
I still have a non-ladder set of keys and if you want to go to UT with that Smiter you are welcome to join us next time whenever that will be.
Funny you mentioned that fallout. On Saturday I made the UT protal and we were standing in town, I was ready to go to Frigid to get Revives, the game got bumped and did not exist, but because I had not moved much since the portal creation, and as well very liitle time passed, when I returned the character to play he still had the keys.
Bummer man.
Tell me if you'd like to go and I'll post the opportunity when it arrives.

You *know* Chill-Bill is keen if there's room for him and we can get a time sorted a reasonable amount of time before-hand (and I can successfully translate it into NZ daylight time).

Now we have to figure out the time difference again. I know we've done this before but as usual I forget it.
I'll type /time when I am on and compare my EST to BNET time. You do the same and I am sure we can do the math.
And I welcome ChillBill to the east too. See you mate.
And forget that Aol email account its gone now. I'll have to find a way to get you a new email address to reach me.
