An Interesting Night in Western UT (Part 2)

V. UT (or something vaguely resembling UT)

Strange things happened. It is hard at this time to determine the exact
forces that were at work. My zon did not get to get close to the ubers.
The barb had to either leave the game or was tossed out by Bnet or a
bad ISP. There was no BO. It also looks like some players like to run
in without BO. BO is powerful. BO is nice. I think there was a
mis-communication or perhaps unfamiliarity with the preferred playing
style for UT.

My zon found herself at the Frigid WP awaiting BO from the barb that
got tossed from the game or whatever. I was alone there and upon
opening the party screen saw that a few characters were in UT. I knew
the possibility then that the portal might be jammed with creatures and
the graphix lag that might ensue upon entry might be dangerous, but I
figured I better run her in anyways to try to keep some heat off
whoever was in there.

Upon entering, sure enough, the graphix lag took a bit of time to show
me what was actually going on. However the zon is somewhat tough and
has her dodge and avoid, etc. There was a battle nearby. There was a
battle right in front of me. The merc and valk were taking on some Pit
Lords and Dark Lords and trying to keep them off my back. When the
graphix lag settled down I was able to set off some bursts but I found
the zon taking too much damage and had to put a little more distance
'tween my self and the major battle. I had to regroup my valk and
merc, oops make that my dead merc.

It seemed a little disorganized, a little out of the ordinary from our
usual visits to UT. I figured I would go get my merc and come back in
but by the time I returned to town the three ubers were dead.

To the person or persons that ran into UT without discussion of what we
were going to do:

Please I beg you to take pity on the lowly zon. Although she is does
not a slew of damage to the ubers and yet has a certain toughness about
her, generally we head in at the same time, for the sake of not only
her but for everyone else. Upon first arrival the portal area tends to
be clear when all go in together. Without a laid out entry and walk
things get triggered sometimes in all the wrong places. It is difficult
sometimes to go in there once the portal area gets swamped and even the
toughest character, much tougher than the lowly zon, can have a tough
time waiting for the graphix lag to unfold in that area if there is a
major battle going on.

I don't think that Tae ever even got to send her character into UT.
She might not have even been at the PC. Keep in mind that sometimes she
has to quickly separate herself from the seat to take care of something
- cat, laundry, or whatever. And if she returned and walked thru the
portal into a battle that is not lag infested for those partaking in it
but lag infested for one upon entry it is not fair to her. Nobody
deserves that. Even if the character survives it is not a particular
nice feeling to walk into a lag infested area that one has little or no
control over. Well maybe other lag infested areas might not be a
problem but then again we are talking about Uber-Tristram here. That is
not just any area.

So I beg to plead and ask that people await for the group to be ready
and willing to run in.

Anyways I understand that it was a Dog torch which I take "dog" to
mean "Druid".

So I am sure there will be plenty of more UT visits, each one a fun and
unique experience in and of itself, with plenty to think about as well
as plenty to talk about; or maybe even to not talk about.

A little joke of story to end the post.

After a UT visit by Orion and Rob on the East US last week.

Orion: Hmm, so what do we write about that UT visit?
Rob: LOL. Let's keep what happened here to ourselves.
Orion: LOL Good idea.

May all of your UT viists be as exciting as,... as,... as an exciting
UT visit.

I agree whole-heartedly Orion. UT runs should be co-operative. If you wanna
be a hero, do a solo run. If you are in a party game, play with and for the
party.

Good write-ups, I always enjoy your spot reports.
