ChillBill-II Does UT

Well, I'd had some luck with Chill-Bill in UT last ladder and figured a
Freezealot was a viable build for UT so I made CB-II this ladder.

I've had an organ set for a while now, thanks to my Necro killing the
lessers. I'd intended to try UT when I had a few people on my friends list
around, just in case but, tonight, I needed the challenge, I needed to kill
some nasty bastards. Nobody on my friends list was around but I thought
"What the hell?".

I'd have liked to have had a Stormlash but I figured an Azurewrath (Shaeled,
albeit a low-stats one) would do. Drac's, (of course), Duress Archon Plate
(Bad roll, low ED), GoreRiders upgraded to Myrmidon's, HoZ upgraded to
Zakarum Shield, 3% LL Bul-Kathos Wedding Band, average Raven Frost,
Highlords Wrath and this Pally hat:

http://test.internet-webmaster.de/upload/1134824486.jpg

(I put the 15% IAS jewel in to reach the last breakpoint for zeal) Would've
been nice if the Ciclet has +2 Pally skills but you can't have everything
right?

Might merc with ethereal Obedience Thresher, Tal's Fugly and upgraded
Shaftstop.

Started a game called 'do-it' and killed Coutess, Shenk and Eldritch. It
seemed stable so I cubed the organs and went in the portal and then back out
again, to 'seed' it at players 1.

Here's where I cheated. I bough in a barb with a level 35 BO and an
Enchantess with a level 34 enchant and parked them at the Frigid Highlands
WP. I'm sure that the purists will be disgusted but, hey, <shrug> it works
for me.

I peoceeded to the WP, shouted and then enchanted, went back to Harrogath
and  headed north, then widdershins to the west. Once I got to the bottom
left corner I started to move in a little, then back, then in a bit furtherm
then back again... until sudenlt Uber Meph came screaming after me like a
psycho-killer on crack. Now, here's where I made my mistake. :-(  I'd
forgotten to have Salvation aura on, I had Holy Freeze. I died in about 3
seconds. (It's ok folks, this is SC). Much forehead slapping later I exited
and rejoined the game and consloed myself with the fact that, A) I'd just
leveled up to 86 so didn't lose much and, B) Meph was parked where I could
get to him easilly.

I ressurected the merc, went through the pre-fight buffing procedure again,
checked I had 16 purples and... Once more into the breech.

Meph was where I left him and was dispatched with alacrity. I needed one
purple until Drac's Life Tap kicked in, then it was a matter of 20 seconds
tops. Hmm, what to do next? I continued widdershins, along the river, until
I came to the gap in the buildings. I figured I'd best try to lure one of
the others out there. Probably not my greatest idea as it didn't leave me
much room to manouvre when they both came rushing out at me, festering
apendages, pig-lords and vampires everywhere. I was mobbed gentle people,
completelty surrounded. I was going through my supply of purples faster than
I would have liked. My merc was doing OK as long as he stayed within the
sphere of the Life Tap. However, he wandered a little, as is his wont. I
went through my purples, about two for him for every one for me.

Originally I concentrated on Baal as he was the one who came at me first.
However, I didn't seem to be taking him down very fast and was concerned
that my half-stash of purples wasn't going to be enough at that rate.
Accordingly I switched my attack to Diablo, I had around 11 of my belt-load
of purples left at this stage. I Zealed that big dog until he only had a
sliver of life left and I had one purple. My merc's life-bar was down in the
yellow but I really didn't want to use my last purp on him in case I didn't
manage to finish off Big D and he regenerated life. However, he had fought
valiantly so I gave it to him. Fortuneately Big D went down jst as my life
was dropping and I made a dash for the red portal. <whew> Made it.

Ok, refill the belt, revisit my friends on the hill and back for Baal. It
was rather uneventful, truth be told. Harder than normal Baal in a players 8
game but not by much. The minions were a distraction as Zeal likes to hit
all around instead of focusing on the primary target. However, my trusty
merc helped considerably with that little problem. After a few minutes there
it was! A unique large charm and three Standards of Heroes.

(I must admit a little foible of mine here, after making many runewords and
wishing for the best stats I've adopted a policy of doing the opposite. When
I made my HotO for my necro I said, aloud, "30 res all" and it came out as
40. As that had worked so well, just as Baal died I said "Barb torch, 10/10"
as I pretty much have no use for such a thing).

I cleared out the rest of the minions so that the barb and the sorc could
come collect their Standards, all the while putting off the moment when I'd
have to talk to Cain and find what the torch was. Once the other two had
their Standards and all the minions were dead I went to talk to Cain and
then opened my inventory. This is what I saw:

http://test.internet-webmaster.de/upload/1134826606.jpg

I'm rather happy with that. About the best possible outcome as far as I'm
concerned. A 20/20 Pally torch, far better than I'd hoped for. I'd had
visions of having to start a druid or an assasin if the torch was one of
those. I don't play either characters at all so don't know how that would
have gone.

So, yeah, W00T!!!!!11!!

I just hope that the firestorm doesn't lag my games too much.

Oh well, off to test my Pally, maybe look for some more keys....

Cheers,

WOOT Indeed. Who'd of thunk it? A bloody 20/20 Pally torch first go. (Other
times have been off-ladder, assisting others so no torch for misfit)

Oh, realised after I'd sent it, I didn't say what my belt was. It's a 15%
damage reduction SoE.

it for some great gear and make you next run's easier I'm guessing.

That is probably the most valuable item in the game I'm guessing. Torches
seem to be falling (from what I'm told/seen/have read) at a ratio of 3:2:1
in favour of druid, amazon, and barb, then necro, then sorc and pally being
the rarest. Then to get perfect stats... I've not heard of that before.

However, after being burnt once trying to trade a torch I wouldn't do it
again, also, it's nice to have. It'll make his next trip to UT easier and I
can replace a lot of resist charms with damage/life/defence charms. Maybe
skillers too when I find a few. I seem to have found them for every other
class.

Now I just need more Nilly keys. My freezealot runs The Countess in about 1
minute if I don't stop to kill monsters on the way (unless they're blocking
doorways) and, as he's currently using an Azurewrath that has the aura that
pushes the undead back, the Arcane is easy too (It's just picking the
correct arm that's a PITA). In the Arcane I only kill about 5% of the
creatures, mainly goats that I can't get past. Otherwise I just run. The
combination of FR/W and slows monsters by ~60% (High-level Holy Freeze) is
great. I've even ran right through the WSK straight to the throneroom
without killing anything. Lost the merc though. :-(

My necro has been pretty good at killing Nilly, (around 5 minutes or less on
average, depending on what monsters are down there) however, he just seems
to be out of keys at the moment. I do all three in each key game I run and I
have 4 Countess, 2 Summoner and only 1 Nilly keys saved up.

Yeah, I dare say it's value is pretty high. However, ChillBill II has become
quite attached to it and I doubt he'd part with it now.

I was gifted with a zon torch recently 20/16. So I guess my luck is picking
up LOL Last night I found Halaberd's Reign, Veil of Steel and a bunch of
other toques. Guess it was ..... A Lovely Day for Hats! aaaaaahahahah

Whereas I never really give a sh.t about the stats on them, much as I never
gave a sh.t about the stats on the annihilus. By the time I can use one, I
usually have all the stats and resists I will need, it's the +3 skills I am
after.

I have been doing a little circuit run the last few days, when I feel up to
it, which hasn't been all that often. I do the Countess, Andariel and the
Summoner. I have 7 terror keys, 6 hate keys. a MAL, VEX, UM, FAL, LEM, LUM
and 2 KO in addition to a host of lesser luminaries.

Bloody hell! I've been hitting the Countess rather hard recently and have
gleaned 6 terror keys but the highest rune was an Io. How do you do it? I
always start the game with a mule who hasn't done the quest as the rune
drops are better and run in a players 3 game. What else do I need to do?

I'm running her with a Freezealot with only about 40% MF (Gheeds). Would
that much make a difference?

It should not. I did have one super drop, where she parked a VEX, LEM and
key all at once. Well, at least that's what was on the floor after the
battle was done, but something there MAY have been dropped by the random
boss I killed along with La Contessa and her crew.

I'll keep trying. I only did a couple runs tonight. I took the necro into
the Pit for a change and the died! Twice! This necro may as well have been
HC, he hadn't died yet. However, the roll of the dice saw five boss packs
all at once, two of which were archers, multishot bosses. At least two of
the bosses had fanaticism auras and one had conviction. Another had amp
damage. All in one area. I died once, then again getting the body back. :-(

LOL, on a trip to the cold plains to get an army up to go back for the body
a 49% Tarnhelm dropped. I swear that, with this ladder, MF over about 50 -
100% is actually detrimental. My Pally (<40%MF) found a +3 skills, 2 socket
Heaven's Light a couple days ago as well as a Highlord's Wrath a few days
before.

Only one key tonight, a Hate key. Nilly dropped me a GC I might roll a few
times though.

I am up to 16 keys, 8 H and 8 T. I also found 3 more DOL runes on Countess
runs. The one who has yet to pay me off (other than a 5%LL ring with a few
resists) is Andariel, who is being somewhat cheap with the jewelry.

Ehhh! You just have to jump in there and give it a go. It ain't HC, as you
say. Just try to do it after you've leveled so you don't have much to lose.

Oh, and, as soon as you get the torch, exit the game and re-enter. So that
it's saved on the server. First thing I did once I IDed that one. :-)

Damn, if my chars don't die at least once a day, I feel cheated. I play so
close to the edge that dying is not a thing to be avoided as much as it is a
barometer of my playing. Not too many people play a sorc standing 2 steps in

I have a lvl 91 Barb, a now lvl 90 Pally, a lvl 86 MA Assy and a lvl 86

Yeah, that's the real fun for me, seeing if I can get everything frozen with
GS before it kills me. Then again, playing no melee chars with uncontrolled
aggression is my personal peculiarity. This is never more obvious than when
I do pubbie Baal walks with my necro. I am usually running out in front of
the barbs, dogs and paladins. I think I play a necro more aggressively than
I do any other char. I suspect this is due to the fact that I have a certain
sense of godliness with a necro, given all the tools at his disposal :)

Thanks Brian. I just re-read it and saw many typos. Heh! It was late when I

get you excited?

Strange indeed. I just clicked them (Firefox) and got the screenies fine.
127.0.0.1 is your own machine. I sure hope you don't have a malware

Merry Christmas buddy, I intend to play a bit in a while and see if Blizz is
going to give me any presents. I was told the other day that, in the days of
Diablo (The original), if you played the realms on Christmas day the drops
had been tweaked so that you had lots of magic stuff drop, mainly with the
prefix 'holy'.

I don't know if the person who told me this was teasing or not though. :-)

I hope not, as well.  I have Zone Alarm Pro, and Spybot S&D with TeaTimer
running, so I've not had to worry about such things, but you never know.
I'll check it out.  Zone Alarm did have a major update recently that seemed
to grant more autonomy to "system" (read: Microsoft) applications, and I
also recently ran some Windows updates....  (Scratches chin...)

Now you've got me tempted to play tonight.  Christmas day officially starts
here in Florida in about 20 minutes, and I should be going to bed!

:)

Thank you for the Christmas wish.  While it is a stretch to say the holiday
is "merry" for me, it is at least hopeful, and that something wonderful for
me.  Merry Christmas to you, too.  :D

I've never been a fan of Zone Alarm. I used it for a year or more. Now I use
Sygate. I'm told it's not free naymore or won't be soon as Symantec (?) have
bought it. However, I have the install file I downloaded a few months ago. I
have XP's firewall on (which is very much a "firewall lite") and also my
router has an embedded Linux HW firewall.DHCP server so I'm probably
overdoing it. The main reason I use Sygate is so that IE doesn't connect to
the net without permission (I have it set to ask) as a lot of malware use IE
as a portal. Firefox is set as my default browser anyway.

Thanks. Also, "merry" doesn't exactly apply to my Christmas either. However,
I did just find the VIVO (Video In/Video Out) lead for my graphics card that
has been 'lost' for ages, presumed gone for ever. That made my day. I paid
$100 extra for that feature (VIVO) when I bought the card, (nVidia GF4
ti4200) then went to price the cable when I'd lost it and was quoted $120.
The days of having that sort of money spare are gone.

Now to cook myself an omelette for dinner and then have another bash at
finding some keys. It's strange, I do Countess, Summoner and Nilly in every
game (with 3 characers in) and I have 3/5/1 keys in that order. Last time it
was 3/3/5. ("Traded" away the spare Nilly ones to a friend). I wanted to run
UT tonight but I doubt I'm going to find 2 Nilly keys in time.

Take care,

Of all the reasons that I HATE anything Microsoft and LOVE my Merlin server,
the best of the best is the Gatekeeper. It acts as both firewall and
cyber-nanny. A quick story: I have a friend who works for a department of
the federal government which does not exist (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), a
group dedicated to locating and infiltrating terrorist cyber activities. One
day, while talking, I mentioned that he and his crew would find it somewhat
less easy to get into my system. The usual testosterone tantrum ensued, and
ended up with me giving him the IP to my server and betting he could not get
past my protection. The bet ($5) was that he could do it in 24 hours, with
me adding $5 for every hour he beat it by and him adding $5 for every hour
he missed it by, with a cap of $1200 either way. The next day he called me
saying that the IP was invalid, so I sent him an email so he could see the
point of origination. Three hours later he was actually able to see the
machine online. Three DAYS later, he called and surrendered, and then asked
what the hell I was running for an OS, as he had tried all flavors of
Windows, Unix and Linux methods of gaining entry. I told him it was Merlin
Server 4.5.3. He said "Gatekeeper? You PRICK!!!!". He then told me that it
is a good thing that IBM does not ship that out to non-commercial users, as
it is, to their knowledge, not possible to beat.

That sounds bloody great. I like the idea of being un-crackable. I'm afraid
I'm rather easy pickings for anyone with a few skills. I don't like that.

40 year old virgin? A concept I cannot wrap me brain around, as it would
seem to have wasted the best years. Between 17 and 25.... ah yes, fond
memories of a perpetual sex drive, and the vigor (level 42, with items) to
use it 7-12 times a day. Oddly, in retrospect, I don't recall doing much of
anything else worthwhile at the time :o)
